Sales in the Eastmont Estates tract of homes on E. Vermont ave. have continued brisk and the homes are going fast, according to Harold Deavel, exclusive sales agent.
The new community, opened to the public Dec. 14, is situated on E. Vermont st., about a half mile east of Los Angeles st., in a picture-one, tree-covered section of Anaheim, a short distance from the city's business center.
Dike, Colerrove and Koll, widely known building contractors, are the developers of the tract, which features extra wide (69-foot) frontages and rambling ranch-type designs by Ruth Gibbs, AIA. The effect is to give the community a pleasing suburban air which has created wide interest in the project. Deavel said.
Both two and three bedroom homes in a wide range of unusual designs are available for early occupancy, it was explained.
Priced from $8395 to $9150 these homes are offered on liberal FHA terms with down payments as low as $895, plus impounds. Monthly terms from $41.50 include principal and interest payment. Deavel stated, Cal-vet and Building and Loan financing also is available, it was pointed out.
Hav Fire Causes $15.000 Damage
Fire destroyed $15,000 worth of hay at the Fernandes Bros. dairy Friday night, with a barn and several cow corrals also being completely gutted.
Although the blaze could be seen for some miles distant, fire was restricted an isolated section of the dairy, the closest building to the barn being several hundred feet away.
Four other fires have been reported in the same area in the past three weeks, all within a half-mile radius of the dairy. 9042 Miller rd., Cypress. Three of these were hay barns, while the other was a house.

SACRAMENTO (CNS) — A study of the January issue of the California Tax Digest, which is a little magazine full of figures concerning the money it costs to keep government operating, may do much toward dispelling the myth that California's increase in population plus inflation are wholly responsible for the tremendous increases in the cost of government.
Undoubtedly, a goodly portion of the added tax dollars are necessary because of these factors. On the other hand, the figures quoted by the Tax Digest show an overall expenditure of $1,052,515,-113 for the 1951-52 fiscal year, compared to $281,733,781 for the fiscal year 1939-40.
Translated into terms of percentages, this means that the overall cost of state government increased nearly 257 per cent in a 12 year period.
California's 1940 census figures showed a population of 6,907,787, and the estimated figure for 1952, as contained in the Secretary of State's roster, was 11,236,900.
Translate this figure into per centages, and it amounts to slightly more than 65 percent.
Thus allow 65 percent increase in population, and there still 192 percent increase to be charged off to inflation. It's a generally known fact to retail buyers of commodities, clothes, hard goods, autotomobiles, etc., that inflation accounts for approximately 100 percent in the price increases noted during the 12 year period.
Subtracting that amount still leaves about 92 percent of the increase in state government costs unaccounted for.
The Tax Digest figures also explode another myth, which has laid the blame for much of the cost of government increase for the state on the amount of money subvented to local governments, for education, welfare and roads.
The figures reveal that the net total for state operations for the 1939-40 fiscal year amounted to $143,010,652, compared to $459,-717,941 for the 1951-52 fiscal year. This is an increase of slightly better than 300 percent.
On the other hand, the local assistance program totaled $13,-723,129 during 1939-40, and $592,-797,172 during the 1951-52 fiscal year. Here is a little better than a 230 percent increase, or 70 percent less than the amount of percentage increase for governmental administrative purposes.
Biggest share of the California tax dollar goes for edu-purpose; the estimate coming fiscal year amount about 40 cents. The grea-tion of this in subse-cchool districts. The sub-jumped from $76,961,997-40 to $263,369,986 in which amounts to approx-290 percent.
But the administrative state's schools and college ed from $12,965,492 to 736 during the same period is better than 500 percent.
The jump in the Department Corrections from $4,362,-079,095, or more than one cent is another indication expenditure of a greater age than increase in pop-ulation.
There are people who question the constrain-ment of the administration that creases in expenditures to population increase an tion. These people in stances have read report perts in private businesses ing out some of the inefficiency of government such as the report from man committee on reorga-Some day; some cogniza-be taken of these reports.

White Temple to Have Film 'These Truths we Hold'
In the light of President Eisenhower's pledge in his State of the Union message this week to eliminate segregation in the armed forces of the United States, particular interest is attached to the motion picture, "These Truths We Hold," to be shown at the regular 7 o'clock Sunday night service at White Temple Methodist church. The theme of the picture is the problems faced by the Negro soldiers. This photoplay was produced by the Protestant Film Commission, and therefore represents the combined efforts of a score of the major denominations to present to he American public documentary evidence of some of the most obvious forms of unAmericanism in our public life. The local church is showing the motion picture in observance of Race Relations Sunday, when Methodists traditionally receive a special offering for the cause of Negro educational institutions. The public is invited.

Music Festival Slated at First Methodist Church
The public is cordially invited to the spiritual festival to be presented by the choirs of the Fullerton First Methodist church, February 15, according to Kenneth Helvey, minister of music.
The festival, which will feature Jester Hairston, Negro composer, conductor, and television star, will begin at 8 p.m. in the church, corner of Pomona and E. Commonwealth, Fullerton.
Mr. Hairston has written special arrangements of such favorites as your attitudely yourself? Do you find it interesting? Do you want to be what you want?
But the administrative costs for state's schools and colleges jumped from $76,961,997 in 1939-40 to $263,369,986 in 1951-52 which amounts to approximately 290 percent.
The jump in the Department of Corrections from $4,369,572 to $32,079,095, or more than 700 percent is another indication of the expenditure of a greater percentage than increase in population.
There are people, of course who question the constant stand of the administration that the increases in expenditures are due to population increase and inflation. These people in some instances have read reports of experts in private business, pointing out some of the inefficiencies in administration of government, such as the report from the Silliman committee on reorganization. Some day, some cognizance may be taken of these reports.

Norpark Sales Credited Largely To Functionalism
Record sales at Norpark Homes at E. Center and Evergreen sts., Anaheim, were credited chiefly yesterday to the drawing power of the modern, functional kitchens in each of the three-bedroom, two-bath dwellings.
This was the announcement of the developers, Hahn-St. John, who declared, however, that 20 homes, in a variety of architectural styles and floor arrangements remain available.
The residences are priced from $12,481 and are offered to veterans for down payments of $481 plus impounds. Outstanding features are on view every day in two model homes.
Extra advantages cited by the builders include the location of Norpark Homes in a scenic area of orange groves, yet convenient to key employment centers of Orange county, Long Beach and Los Angeles, as well as schools, churches, shopping districts, picnic grounds, playgrounds, tennis courts and other recreational facilities of the Anaheim park system.
The kitchens have extra large knotty pine cabinets, exhaust fans over ranges, spacious breakfast nook areas, Waste-King garbage pulverators and easy to clean Hermosa ceramic tile around the work areas.
