Murder 'Victim' To Testify in Conspiracy Trial
SAN FRANCISCO (PA)—A murderous conspiracy and murderous assault trial with the "victim" alive and ready to testify for the defense opened in superior court here Wednesday.
The weird case involves the near fatal beating with a ballpeen hammer of Mrs. Florence Brown, 46, in her apartment last Oct 6.
The defendants are her husband, Attorney Carl F. Brown: promoter Joe Tener, 54, a tenderloin character, and Victor "Lucky" Stoner, 24, a former automobile race driver and mechanic of San Diego.
Norman Elkington, chief assistant district attorney, charged Stoner with attempting to kill Mrs. Brown for a fee arranged by Tenner on instructions of the intended victim's politically prominent lawyer husband, Brown.
Elkington said Stoner testified before the grand jury that Brown was to pay him $5000 for the killing but actually gave him only $1000 because he failed in the attempt.
Stoner, however, later repudiated the testimony.
Both Brown and Tenner denied motor vehicle division of Carl Dodson, manager oflice Wednesday that the trained several thousand cash and checks paid by officers for new license plates.
Officers said the intruder window during the night the safe—weighing more ton — onto an office wheeled it out, presumably truck.
When relishes are passed a main course, put your of them on your dinner jelly is passed with the rolls, put your helping your bread and butter pluck.

Search for Lost Plane Abandoned
NEW YORK — Search was abandoned Wednesday for a British airliner with 39 aboard missing since early Monday morning in the north Atlantic off Newfoundland, the U.S. coast guard said.
The plane, a four-engine York, was ferrying British troops, their wives and children from London, via Gander, N.F., to the West Indies.
The U.S. coast guard cutter Campbell reported sighting of a flare and an oil slick in the search area Tuesday but intensive combing of the wintry seas since then produced no further results.
Four U.S. coast guard vessels and four U.S. planes which alied in the search were ordered back to their normal stations.
