Following his habit as a lifelong soldier, the President elect got up bright and early this morning on his last day as a private citizen before assuming the highest office in the land.
Works on Address
He was up and about at 7:15 a.m., had breakfast with Mrs. Eisenhower in their hotel suite an hour later, then turned to a busy round of last-minute tasks.
Among other things, he went over his 15-minute inaugural address with his chief assistant, former Gov. Sherman Adams of New Hampshire, and his press secretary, James C. Hagerty.
During the morning, Eisenhower talked for about an hour with Bernard J. Shahley of Bernardsville, N. J., one of his campaign advisers, who later told newsmen:
"He's wonderful, I think he looks better every time I see him. He is full of life and drive and ready to go."
Family Dines
At luncheon, an all-stag affair, Eisenhower sat down with his four brothers — Edgar, Arthur, Earl and Milton—and eight other members of the Eisenhower family.
It was the 64th birthday of the general's brother, Edgar, and there was a birthday cake to mark the occasion.
While Eisenhower busied himself with eleventh-hour details, Mrs. Eisenhower

It was the 64th birthday of the general's brother, Edgar, and there was a birthday cake to mark the occasion.
