Capt. Ferguson met with quite an accident yesterday, which was more disastrous to the buggy than to himself. His horse became frightened and kicked the buggy to pieces.
The following freight was shipped from the depot this morning: 1 box bottles; 1 box raisins; 3 beer kegs; 1 empty bbl.; 16 dry hides; 10 bales wool; 1 bale sheep pelts; 2 pipes wine; 2 bbls wine.
We are indebted to Assessor Ryan for the following totals of the assessed value of property in Los Angeles county: Real estate, $9,535,246; improvements $3,607,-160; personal property, $2,605,373; money, $119,892. Total $15,857,-671.
At a meeting of the members of the Presbyterian church, held yesterday, Mr. D Edwin Miles was elected trustee for the ensuing three years.

The party at the residence of Mr. and Mrs Rice, at the old San Joaquin house, on Tuesday evening was an enjoyable one and was largely attended.
Mrs Bennett brought to town yesterday some large buildings.
The wedding march was played by Mrs. Florence Winters. Miss Gladys Miller sahg two solos and Miss Grace Curtis played before the ceremony. Theodore Seims was best man and Alan Rains and Randolph Guthrie ushers. A wedding supper was served at the home of the bride's parents, west of town after which the happy couple departed on their honey-moon. On their return they will reside in Buena Park.

Mrs. Bennett brought to town yesterday some large bunches of Flaming Tokay grapes One of the bunches weighed 3½ pounds.
The San Diego stage was stopped on Sunday morning near San Luis Rey and the treasure box was robbed of about $50.

Trapp, of Buena Park, and Fred Winters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Winterts of this city, were married on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock by Dr Benjamin S. Haywood. The bride was beautifully gowned in white satin and was attended by Mrs. Theo Stems as matron of honor Her bridesmaids were the Misses Lois and Doris Wilson and Mildred Stewart was flower girl.
FJC Expects 10 Per Cent Hike In Enrollment
Adhering to the trend set in enrollment figures the first semester, a 10 per cent increase over last year's second semester enrollment is expected by Robert C. Rockwell, registrar, when Fullerton junior college's second semester begins on Feb 2.
Pre-registration for the second semester, for students now attending the college, began Jan. 6 and will continue until Jan 22, said Rockwell During this period, students may consult their faculty counselors and arrange their programs of studies for the second semester Reservations for classes will be assured for students who pre-register.
One class of students, veterans, will contribute significantly to the increase said Rockwell At present there are approximately 149 veterans at the Fullerton Junior college which has been approved for GI education by the veterans' administration. Not all are attending under veterans' educational legislation.
Veterans of the Korean war will contribute to the increased veteran enrollment Probably about 25% of the Presbyterian church, held yesterday, Mr. D Edwin Miles was elected trustee for the ensuing three years.

VISION Self styled experts on feminine beauty often go off on tangents and name the gal with the most beautiful back, most beautiful eyes, most beautiful stems to build their dream girls. Anaheimers should really be beauty wise, because Anaheim is the home of beautiful women. A shutter bug who chooses to remain anonymous tells me the perfect Miss Anaheim would have the figure of Marie Wilson, the legs of Jo Ann Burdick, the shoulders of Paula Doretti, the waist of Helen Weir, the hands of Francis Hurtado, and the smile of Goldie Barchenge. Honestly, the Gazetteer is in no position to argue with the able photographer, so we'll take his word for it.
SIDELINES — Russell (Rusty) Heman, Olive's gift to organized baseball, is leaving this week for Ft. Pierce, Fla.. for a month-long pre-spring training workout. Paul Richards regards him as the most promising rookie pitcher in the White Sox chain Speaking of baseball, reminds us that Bobby Adams, Anaheim's major leaguer will start limbering up before long He is one of six players who participated in 154 games last season Harold (Skeets) Gregg, who was the toast of the coast league last year before his arm went dead is considering a comeback. If he doesn't make the grade in baseball he'll concentrate on his golf REPORT — Did you notice Geo.ge Oelkers' report on the water consumption in Anaheim? Increased water usage indicates the city's added population You just can't deny that Anaheim is growing Ted Shipkey, the man who handles the Fullerton outlet of the Shipkey-Pearson enterprise has the distinction of making the all-time San Bernardino and Fullerton high school football teams He played at San Bernardino before playing at Fullerton where Stewart S. (Shorty) Smith rates him with the greatest Remember the turbulent times Anaheim had during the administration of Mayor E. H Metcalf? Growing pains were responsible for most of them. The 1920's were a real transition period for smaller communities.

ANAHEIM
Owl Lures Crows
BELTON, Tex. OP—Pop-Pop, horned owl makes it easy for Neison H. Hander, a pecan grower to kill crows by the hundreds.
Hander ties a 3-foot twine to one pop-Pop's legs. He ties the other-end to a crow, dead or alive Hander hides nearby. Other crow think Pop-Pop is attacking one of their buddies, and they're right Pop-Pop loves crow meat. The aroused crows swoop down on Pop-Pop. Hander kills the crow with his shotgun.
As far as a pecan farmer concerned there just isn't any bit more destructive than a crow Hander says. He has tried many ways of controlling crows and the owl method is the best.

Kaiser-Frazer Sales Swing up
Official, R. L. Polk automobile registration figures just released for the State of California show that during October of 1952 Kaiser-Frazer sales increased 62 per cent over the comparable period of 1951. The figures are quoted from the current issue (Dec. 15) of "Automotive News" by Russ Heysell, General Manager, Los Angeles Division, Kaiser-Frazer Sales Corporation.
Heysell points out that this is the highest percentage of increase attained in California during this period by any American automobile manufacturer. He credits increased public acceptance of Kaiser products and a strengthening of the K-F dealer organization for this California sales increase.
VIGNETTE You've undoubtedly heard how James Besery's life was saved by his pet bird which pecked him on the head until he woke up after his mattress caught on fire. And while the fire which was probably started from a cigarette caused $5's worth of damage, it got nation-wide play by wire services and would have been worth a million to anyone who could have used the publicity. Don't think Jim could use the publicity break, but he sure can get a little more mileage out of his life.
LINES-O-TYPE Richard R. Riedel, who figured in a minor traffic accident last week is none other than the famous Sunkist Lady pilot who with Bill Barris made an endurance flight record a few years ago. Douglas (Wrongway) Cochrane isn't listed in the telephone directory. Too many jokers would call him to find out which way was the right way... William Harvey Fox, a 50-year-old Anaheimer, got six months for stealing $2.01 worth of groceries. That don't seem right when some folks "get away with murder". Severino Lucavane, a section hand, Gerald Field, Columbia Pictures studio employee, and John C. Lewis of Costa Mesa, had something in common though they never met formally. They were Orange county traffic fatalities—the first three of 53. The highways and byways are wet and dangerous, friendly. Talke it easy—the other fellow might not be able to drive as well as you think you can.
AFTERTHOUGH A rooster may not be conscious of the difference between standard and daylight saving time, he just crows when it's time to get up.
