Subcommittee Finds Hollywood Ceased to be Full Pocket for Red WASHINGTON, Dec. 27 (AP)—The House un-American Activities committee said today that Hollywood no longer provides an extensive financial reservoir for Communist Party activities.
In its annual report to the House, the committee said it feels that its public exposure of Communist infiltration into the motion picture industry has greatly diminished the party's sources of funds in the film capital.
The committee first undertook its filmland investigations in 1945, held public hearings in Maldive Islands Forsake Crown—No Sultans Left

Maldive Islands Forsake Crown—No Sultans Left
COLOMBO, Ceylon, Dec. 27 (AP)
After 800 years as a sultanate, the 2000 scattered islands of the Maldives group, 400 miles southwest of Ceylon in the Arabian Sea, will become a republic Jan. 1.
The reason? The Maldives ran out of sultan material.
The new republic, with 83,000 persons, will remain under British protection. Its first president is 41-year-old Amin Didi, now the Maldives' prime minister and author of their constitution.
The change in political status will come about when Sir Cecil Myers, British high commissioner to Ceylon, signs a new treaty recognizing the republic New Year's Day.
The largest foreign group to visit the islands since World War II will witness the inaugural ceremony. Offshore a British cruiser and at least one British Royal Air Force flying boat will lend a touch of modern color to the scene.
But no one expects the political change will alter the islands' peaceful way of life nor its business of trading dried fish and other products of the sea to Ceylon for rice.
The Maldives' people are all Moslems. Traders here say that throughout their recorded history the islands never have had a crime of passion. There is no police force and even political revolutions have been bloodless.
Under Islamic law, alcoholic beverages are banned and the people use little tobacco. Its import or cultivation is prohibited.
Dogs are unknown, since a religious ban exists on their breeding.

cruiting individuals in important and strategic positions in almost all phases of motion picture production.
"Had these Communist efforts gone unexposed, it is almost inevitable that the content of motion pictures would have been influenced and slanted and become a medium for Communist propaganda."
The committee said it is not finished with its investigation of the film industry, still having a number of witnesses to call.
Meanwhile, it urged that all fields of entertainment and culture maintain "a steadfast vigilance in order to avoid the possibility of further Communist infiltration into them."
