Householders on every side have decorated both inside and out with brightly colored lights, traditional Christmas trees, scenes of the nativity, and life size figures from the realm of Santa Claus. Twenty-five junior college men are sought by the aircraft company at present. How long the program will be in operation was not specified. "Eventually, the junior college hopes to be able to work out cooperative training programs for credit and pay with various industries," said McCormick. Need for machinists in Southern California is vital, according to Baish. In the past two years 1220 new industries have sprung up between the center of Los Angeles and Anaheim. Industry must make every effort to train the machinists needed by mounting production. Miss Mary Kellogg's class in sales started with a penny and by applying the principles of good salesmanship, turned that penny into $2.15. It all began, according to Miss Kellogg when one of the students, Eugene Carl, wondered if there was to be any practical application of the principal learned. Receiving one cent from the instructor, Eugene was asked to buy something with it, then sell that article at a profit and bring the money back to class so that the next student could repeat the process. Carl did just that: he bought some candy that was attractively packaged and looked as if it had cost more. He sold it to a friend for two cents and brought the money back next day. Shirley Redelberger was next. She bought comic books at a rummage sale and sold them for three cents to some children she knew who liked them. Eventually the money, in ever increasing quantity, made the rounds; all 18 students had a chance to put their merchandising skills into practice. First they found they had to select their customers and know their needs and wants. As Tree Lane Anaheim has its own Christmas Lane. It is situated off street between North and ore and the street marker Ken Way. The little street is fifteen houses became as Tree Lane for the fourth consecutive year last Sunday when the beautifully shaped live Christmas trees which border the street were uniformly lighted. This pleasant custom was originated by Ralph Maas, local real estate broker who developed the street and planted the trees. It was he who purchased the lights which are used year after year, and he who named it Ken Way after his first grandson who now lives at Number 901. Ken's dad, Ralph Maas, Jr., is custodian of the lights and with help from near-by-home-owners, decks individual trees with thirty multi-colored 25 watt bulbs each year. A conduit with an underground wire connects each tree to a special house. Ken Way becomes Christmas Tree Lane by a pre-arranged signal from Maas, usually about a week before Christmas. Evelyn Drive Likewise a community project, instigated by a local developer, is the winter wonderland at Evelyn Drive. This will be the fifth year that some 36 families have created Christmas scenes on their lawns to commemorate the holiday season. Children visiting the area for the first time are apt to rub their eyes in disbelief at the life-like animated figures, the snow which appears to eling to every tree and bush, and the startling lighting effects. Year after year, no less than 50,000 cars by actual count, circle the drive, while many folks come on foot to gaze in awe and wonder at the cow who jumps over the moon; the wooden soldiers marching in unison, the caroling choir singers, and the reindeer which run along the roof tops.
