Intermediate speech students from two classes conducted by Duane Johnson will prepare talks in the near future to deliver before their respective classes, it was announced. Judges of the speeches will be students of the other classes. Following a process of elimination, best speeches will be narrowed down to one boy and one girl, each of whom will receive prized gold pieces from the collection of Homer Beach, recently retired head custodian of FUHS. Final contest is scheduled for Jan. 29 at which time announcement of winners is to be made, Johnson stated. Former winners of the Beach contests were Elden Buck, first; and Noreen Stein, second, in 1947; Barney Blashill and Gail Gifford in 1948; Stan Chapman and Barbara Van Blair, 1949; Phil Laymon and Jon Kountz, 1950; and last year, Jack Allbright and Nancy Zehnpfennig. The welcome mat is out 24 hours a day for visitors at the Air Defense Filter Center, 1012 North Main St., Santa Ana (old J. C. building diagonally across the corner from Buffum's). Students Join Actively in TB Seal Sale Drive In a concentrated one period, one day drive Wednesday, Dec. 17 Fullerton junior college students contributed $92 for purchase of the familiar Tuberculosis association Christmas seals. On the Fullerton union high school campus, a similar drive was carried on from Wednesday to Friday, Dec. 19. Results will be announced at a later date, said a representative of the student executive board. Chuck Hyde, El Monte, student rally commissioner and chairman of the junior college drive, announced results Wednesday afternoon. He was aided by members of the student government commission, which sponsored the drive, and by members of the speech classes. Students, faculty and employees alike of the high school and junior college derive direct benefit from the sales of Christmas seals, a county Tuberculosis association representative recently told the junior college student offices. So do many, many people in many communities. Annually the association's mobile x-ray unit visits the high school and junior college campus. Every student, school employee, and teacher is given a free chest x-ray. Two former junior college students are now under treatment for tuberculosis. Their treatment is paid for by the Christmas seal fund. These benefits are actually far reaching, emphasized Miss Helen Walker, school nurse for Fullerton high school and junior college. She heartily supported the TB association representative's remarks. Active in the selling of seals on the junior college campus were these members of the student commission and speech classes: Bob Burns, Fullerton; Joe Keltner, Norwalk; Pauline Parsons, Whittier; Bonnie Chalmers, Fullerton; Tammy Tutschelte, Anheim; Bob Pipes, El Monte; Tom Dollarhide, Yorla Linda; Nancy Simpson, Los Angeles; Meredith Barton, Bellflower; John Citso, Whittier; Chuck Hyde, El Monte; Mark Hepp, Garden Grove, Nevada Owens, Whittier; Florence Rowland, Fullerton. The comb has been used by all peoples and in every age for dressing the hair. DIAL-LITES — SUNDAY — TELE-TIPS 11:30—KNX-N.Y.
