TOP FAR EAST BRASS WITH EISENHOWER—The top UN commanders in Korea meet with President-elect Eisenhower after his arrival in Seoul. Left to right: Gen. O. P. Weyland, commander far east air force; Ike; Gen. Mark Clark, far east supreme commander, and Gen. James Van Fleet, 8th army commander.
Who's Footing the Bill for Ike's Trip? Question is Unanswered in Washington
WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 (P)—Who's paying for President-elect Eisenhower's trip to Korea and how much is it costing?
That question was put today to Eisenhower's headquarters in New York, the Pentagon and the Republican national committee with these results:
Eisenhower headquarters: there is nobody here in a position to say.
The Pentagon: Ask Eisenhower's headquarters.
The Republican committee: Ask the military.
There was one inkling of at least were used on the Eisenhower trip.
News reports said the planes took about 47 hours for the flight to Korea and about nine hours on the return trip to Guam. That would represent about $56,-600 operating costs.
As for the cruiser Helena, on which Ike is making the trip from Guam to Hawaii, the navy takes the position in such cases that the vessel would be operating regardless—and therefore there's no additional cost beyond the relatively small item of food.
News correspondents also are making the trip with Eisenhower's

That question was put today to Eisenhower's headquarters in New York, the Pentagon and the Republican national committee with these results:
Eisenhower headquarters: there is nobody here in a position to say.
The Pentagon: Ask Eisenhower's headquarter.
The Republican committee: Ask the military.
There was one inkling of at least part of the cost. The air force said it costs $500 an hour to fly Constellation. Two of that type took about 47 hours for the flight to Korea and about nine hours on the return trip to Guam. That would represent about $56,-600 operating costs.
As for the cruiser Helena, on which I like is making the trip from Guam to Hawaii, the navy takes the position in such cases that the vessel would be operating regardless—and therefore there's no additional cost beyond the relatively small item of food.
News correspondents also are making the trip with Eisenhower's party. It is usual for the military to bill them for at least living expenses.

More About Ike
(Continued from Page 1)
From Eisenhower's statements during the presidential campaign, it appeared this program for dealing with the Korean War already has begun to evolve:
1. Strengthening of South Korea and use of more Republic of Korea ROK troops on the front lines to replace Americans and thus reduce U.S. casualties.
2. Increased economic aid to South Korea to bolster its ability to continue the fight against the Communists.
3. Avoidance of any military action that might involve risks of another world conflict.
4. Move to strengthen the cooperation between the United Nations Allies.
The pending rendezvous at Wake is reminiscent of another dramatic meeting there more than two years ago.
President Truman and Gen. Douglas McaArthur, then Allied
Douglas MacArthur, then Allied ferred there on the Korean War situation in October, 1950, before the intervention of the Chinese Red.
The Helena, returning from Korean duty, is expected to arrive at Pearl Harbor Thursday. There, the general may remain for a day or two as the guest of Adm. Arthur Radford, commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet.
The President-elect will fly home in the same Military Air Transport Service MATS Constellation transport that brought him to Korea.
The big plane delivered Eisenhower at Guam from Korea early Saturday. Then it continued on to Hawaii to wait for Eisenhower, and bring him home.
They Lead in Corn Production
The states of Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota are the largest corn-producing states in the Union. However, corn is a staple crop and is produced in every one of our states.
EISENHOWER WATCHES KOREAN WAR DRILL—
Peering through binoculars, President-elect Eisenhower watches puffs of white smoke dotting a hillside in a training demonstration by troops of the crack Republic of Korea division somewhere in Korea.
EISENHOWER STARTS HIS KOREAN TOUR—President-elect Eisenhower, dressed in foul-weather gear to protect him against the cold, sits in a jeep as he begins his tour of Korean war fronts and training camps. Behind him is Gen. Mark Clark, Far East supreme commander.
