HENRY KUCHEL 75 Years Ago About 12 o'clock on Thursday night an individual named Henry Purt was arrested by Marshal Wartenberg for disturbing the peace. On the way to the jail he became obstreperous and broke away from the officer. Three shots were fired at the fugitive, but it was not until after a lively chase that he was recaptured and lodged in jail by the marshal and Nightwatchman Bohn. Justice Bailey sentenced him to imprisonment in the county jail for 30 days. A depth of three hundred and ninety feet was yesterday attained at the well now being sunk on Mr. Chilson's farm, north of town. A partial change in the management of the Planter's hotel has taken place. Mrs. Graham, a lady of great ability as a caterer, and who has had 12 years experience in the management of hotels, will take charge of the culinary department. 50 Years Ago Wild cats are plentiful in Santiago canyon, although many have been killed by organized hunting parties. The latest cat story which wafts its way over the Santa Ana is said to be told by Judge Pleasants, who, while out with his dogs last week came upon four wild cats in one tree. Judge Pleasants had no gun, but he climbed the tree and managed to dislodge one cat, which, when close pressed by the dogs, scaled the side of a cliff where the dogs could not follow, and the time thus lost was suffi- 25 Years Ago Judge and Mrs. Homer G. Ames have returned home after an absence of some weeks. Judge Ames was appointed to sit in the Superior court in San Diego after which time he and Mrs. Ames took a vacation trip to Yellowstone park and other interesting points.
