Co-Chairmen Named to Head 1952 Christmas Seal Sale Campaign
Dr. Ralph C. Smedley of Santa Ana and Mrs. Wayne Reafsynder of Garden Grove have accepted the appointment as co-chairmen of the 1952 Christmas Seal sale in Orange county, according to an announcement by George H. Tobias, president of the Orange County Tuberculosis and Health Assn.
The sale this year will be the 40th annual conducted by an Orange county association. The seals will go on sale on Nov. 17 and proceeds are used to combat tuberculosis.
Mrs. Reafsynder is a former association president, and Dr. Smedley, founder of Toastmasters International, has taken an active part in association activities for many years.
Following his appointment of the co-chairmen, President Tobias said: "Because of its infectiousness, its prevalence, its symptomless onset, its long duration and its tendency to recur even though once arrested, TB is one of the most complex and costly public health problems in the United States. It kills more persons each year in this country than all other infectious and parasitic diseases combined."
"We do not have to go out of Orange county for evidence of suffering due to tuberculosis."
"I am confident of the support of the people in this area during the forthcoming Christmas Seal Sale," Tobias said. "They realize that by buying Christmas Seals they are supporting a work of the Orange County Tuberculosis and Health Association and are helping to erect a strong barrier against the spread of TB in this community."
County Savant Sees Gordon X. Richmond as Nixon Post Candidate
By GEORGE E. HART
While it seems to be pretty well settled in the political minds of California that our Tommy Kuchel of Anaheim, the state controller, is a front runner for the appointment as U. S. senator, to succeed Dick Nixon, the new Veep, it should not be overlooked that there is a second possibility in Orange county for this high honor.
Gordon X. Richmond of Orange, already has been mentioned in the public prints as one of the prospects for the senatorial appointment to be made by Gov. Earl Warren. This could be something more than mere honorable mention.
Mr. Richmond is well known to be very close to the governor; has been one of Warren's trusted lieutenants in the California political scene. He is widely known in Republican circles throughout the state, and formerly headed the Republican assembly. Beyond that he is not unknown in national politics, and should be quite close to the new Republican administration for he was the first delegate at last summer's national convention to second the presidential nomination of General Eisenhower.
TV viewers who remember his speech on that occasion will concede that the Orange lawyer could succession intimate a three-way reshuffling of offices that would wind up with Controller Kuchel as governor instead of senator. This supposed possibility would start with Gov. Warren appointing Lt. Gov. Knight to the senate, and naming Kuchel as lieutenant governor. Then Warren would resign as governor to accept a federal appointment, presumably in the Eisenhower cabinet, and Lt. Gov. Kuchel would become governor.
This could be done but seems a mite complicated and not so likely as the straight-out appointment of Tommy Kuchel as U.S. senator.
What has become of the boy who used to bring the Sunday papers along the street in a little wagon?

Transit Company Operating Again
The West Orange County Transit Co. resumed operation from Long Beach to Knott's Berry Farm Friday having been inoperative for several weeks for allegedly not complying with insurance laws.
William D. Bourne and Arthur V. Harvey purchased the bus line from Paul Delfenback of Long Beach who had been operating the line since last year. The new owners have 50 buses and are with the Harvey school bus service.
New schedules were to be issued last week and after Thursday changes will be made in the route. Bourne said today as manager of the Cypress-Stanton-Long Beach line.
Paul Hicks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hicks, 5701 Lincoln, Cypress, left last week to attend Mount Lowe Military School in Altadena. He transferred from AUHS.
