Diane and Betty won the blue ribbon award for St. Boniface school. Anaheim Gazetteer by JOHN S. NEUBAUER WEATHERWISE. — Dixson W. Tubbs, county agricultural commissioner, predicts smudge pot weather for November. Jack Frost should arrive on or about the ninth. Enrique Torres got what he wanted—an immediate sentence to prison ... John Verdin, 20, was sentenced to a year in the county jail on a burglary count ... James William Drake, "finger man" in the Bridgford Packing Co. meat hijacking case pleaded guilty. Two of the four men who were linked by Drake to the theft were freed by a jury last week. Iron Eyes Cody, Cherokee Indian star of movies and television, was grand marshal, while Miss Slick Chick—Frances Hurtado—was the queen of the west's largest after-dark parade. More than 100,000 Orange counties are expected to vote in tomorrow's national election. Anaheim, with its predominantly Republican registration, is expected to give the GOP slate—Dwight D. Eisenhower and Dick Nixon—preference. Nixon is a Yorba Linda丹 by birth, while LeRoy Lyons Jr., assemblyman-elect, is an Anaheimer. Lyons' name is on the ballot for a complimentary vote. Hallowe'en pranksters' activities were a considerable nuisance to various police departments throughout the county, but damage done was negligible. On the whole, it was a rather quiet night of hexing. Although cost-of-living indexes indicate a decrease, cost of milk will go up from a half to a cent a quart Saturday. REMINDER—There are just 42 more shopping days until Christmas. And the tax bills are in Anaheim mailboxes, too. COURTOPIX — Henry Ford McCracken 35-year-old hilbilly Lynx guitarist, received an "11th hour" stay of execution when Marine county Superior Judge Charles Brusatori signed an order to delay the death penalty for 60 days. McCracken's attorney, James Monroe, is convinced that the slayer of Patty Joan Hull in a shabby Buena Park motel room is insane. With court clerks turning their attention to the general election, the Rupp murder trial has been recessed until Nov. 10 by Judge Kenneth Morrison. Psychiatrist W. S. Musteld and Dr. Samuel Marcus testified of slayer Billy Rupp's limited reasoning powers. Roy Clifford Broughton, 18-year-old ex-marine, was SPORTOPIX — Though outstatisticied, Clare Van Hoorebeke's Colonists checked Ed Goddard's Huntington Beach Oilers, 6-6, at La Palma park the other night. They'll settle the Sunset league race with Fullerton, 52-26 winner over Newport, Saturday. Rollie Pulaski was the man of the week as he kept Newport in the picture at Fullerton. Dick Carter's touchdown on a pass from DeWayne Vaughn gave Orange a 7-0 win over Santa Ana... Riverside upset Fullerton college, 20-13, while Santa Ana upended the favorite San Berdoo Indians, 34-12; and Orange Coast rounded to a 40-0 win over Chaffey in the wide-open college conference race... Laguna and Brea-Olinda are currently leading the Oranco league (3-0) and will play for the title Friday afternoon. Pat Putnam and Joe Gudnundsson paced B-O to a 21-0 win over Capistrano; Valencia beat Garden Grove, 13-7, and Laguna blasted Tustin, 20-0... Anaheimers didn't fare so well in Oranco winter league play. Danny Rowland's Optimists dropped an 8-5 decision at Corona; Bob Blaylock pitched Santa Ana to a 5-2 win over Orange to give the Bears the league lead. Blaylock struck out 18. Fullerton turned back Placentia, 7-2, in the other league game. TRANSITION — Statistically Anaheimers got three marriage licenses; five death certificates and nine birth certificates... Savala Loses HOLLYWOOD (P) — A steady stream of left jabs gave Jackie Blair, 131, San Antonio, Tex., a TKO victory over Jimmy Savala, 133½, of Madera at Hollywood Legion stadium Saturday. The bout was billed for 10 stanzas, but Referee Mushry Callahan stopped it after Savalia suffered cuts near both eyes. The Texas boxer had a clear edge throughout as Savalia fought only in rare spurs. WELLINGTON, N.Z. (P) — Americans are on top in the Korean air war because of the quality of their air crews. Air Chief Marshal Sir William Dickson, who takes over as Britain's chief of air staff next January, said in an interview today. passed the great divide last week. PARTING WORD — Don't forget.
