Morris, Orange county co-chairman of the veteran's committee for Eisenhower and Nixon. Morris, quoting from a bulletin received from national headquarters of the veterans' committee for Eisenhower and Nixon, said: "Adalai Stevenson is traveling under false colors. He is not and never has been a veteran. In order to be a veteran, one must have (1) been on active military service with the Armed Forces of the United States, and (2) been honorably discharged therefrom. "During a period of six weeks from Oct. 21, 1918 to Dec. 5, 1918, Mr. Stevenson, while attending Princeton University was enrolled in a Naval training course known as 'USNRF.' This unit was laughingly called 'you shall never reach France.' At no time were the members of this unit placed on active military duty. "The records of the defense department have been checked, and they reveal absolutely no record of any military service for Stevenson. Yet, in 1925, Stevenson applied for membership in the American Legion, Ad Men's Post of Chicago, even though he as an attorney must have been fully aware of the fact that he was not qualified for membership therein. "At this time," Morris continued, "Prospective members for the Legion were not asked for copies of their discharge papers, but the prospect's word was taken as to his eligibility. It must be further noted that Stevenson was a dues paying member for only the year 1925 to 1926 before he let his membership lapse, and he did not renew it until it became politically expedient for him to do so when he became a candidate for governor of Illinois in 1948." Morris further revealed that he had verified this information with the national veterans' for Eisenhower and Nixon, headquarters in Washington, who had made the check of defense department files." Germans Fly in Korea, Gen. Says TOKYO (P)—The commander of the U.S. Fifth air force said yesterday he agreed with the recently expressed belief of Gen. Hoyt Vandenberg, air force chief of staff, that German and Russian pilots are flying Communist MIG 15 jets in Korea. Lt. Gen. Glenn O. Barcus added, however, in an interview to the army newspaper, Stars and Stripes, that he had "nothing concrete" on which to support his views.
