HENRY KUCHEL 75 Years Ago October 1877 On Friday a collision between a hand-car and a special engine occurred on the Southern Pacific near San Fernando, which resulted in the death of John Heaton, foreman of bridge construction and framework for the road, and caused serious injury to Charles Vullancono, a saloon keeper of Los Angeles who had his leg broken in two places. The occupants of the car were the two named above and Adolph Slefert and Fred White, both employees of the road. The two latter escaped injury. The coroners jury rendered a verdict that the accident was unaycidable, and that nobody was to blame. The thermometer registered 100 degrees at Orange yesterday. 50 Years Ago October 1982 Mr. Keahler has made for L. A. Evans of West Anaheim, a camp house on wheels, 8x20 feet, which Mr. Evans will occupy while harvesting his 110-acre beet field at Los Alamitos. The house is fitted up with a stove and cooking utensils, as well as sleeping apartments, and its conveniences are in no way inferior to the elaborate passenger coaches we read about in the story books. Helena st., Anaheim, reported for work at Anaheim post office yesterday for the last time to end '38 years, 8 months of service in the local office. On March 1, 1914, Jenkins was appointed as a postal clerk, in which capacity he continued until his retirement.
