Kuchel, state controller, announced here today. Kuchel said the state had $171,-737,851 as a general fund cash excess over current obligations on that date, as compared to $156,-497,588 Aug. 31, and $139,729,-586 on Sept. 30, 1951. The current figure, he pointed out, does not include a $5,500,000 advance to the veterans farm and home building fund, loaned until action is completed Nov. 4 on a new bond issue. The term excess, Kuchel pointed out, does not in any sense mean 'surplus.' The excess is the amount of cash on hand over the current obligations already contracted for by the state. Revenues for the first quarter of the current fiscal year totaled $177,567,062, an increase of 14 per cent over the amount received during the same period last year.
