Sale of Property To Japanese Vet Draws Protest
SAN JOSE (AP)—A San Jose home owner stood firm today in his decision to sell his house to a disabled Japanese-American war veteran, despite a protest petition from his neighbors.
The petition—signed by 24 people—protested the sale of the house to Sam Yoshihara, San Jose produce dealer who received a 60 per cent pension for wounds suffered while with the Army's famed 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Italy during World War II.
The home owner, A. E. Amstutz, urged Yoshihara to complete the purchase of the house, but the 29-year-old father of three children said he hasn't made up his mind.
"I'm not sure I want to live among neighbors who don't want me," he told newsmen.
Message of City’s $1,000,000 Utility Bonds Presages Growth
community's recently-$1,000,000 expansion and movement of the municipal waived power system will bring a tidal upsurge in home building industrialization, the Ana-Chamber of Commerce pre-today.
Safe on Prop. Scheduled in Santa Ana HS
Discussion of the various aspects of both sides of the question position 3 which will appear in November ballot will be Santa Ana high school autumn tonight at 8 p.m., according to an announcement by A. Geler, Orange County merger of the campaign for a vote.
Kicking for a "yes" vote will E. Benton, religious liberty secretary for the Seventh Dayists in the Pacific Coast and William B. Ross, Los Angeles advertising and public relations man who is Southern Californians office in Education. Opposing will be E. G. Watkins, So. California director of the California taxpayers Alliance, and a not yet named. If it is possible to get the second speaker, the "yes" side will presented only by Mr. Benete Cooey, managing editor Register, will serve as moderator.
Meeting is free to the pub-no doubt will draw a large due to the controversial nature of the proposition," said Santa Ana High School is at Walnut and Ross sts.
"We are now in a position," a spokesman asserted, "to augment our housing promotion campaign and, also to provide additional security for our fast-growing population by opening another 300 acres of valuable industrial land."
He noted in particular that the bond issue will make possible extension of public services into many newly-annexed, or to-be-annexed, areas, spurring fresh activity in new residential subdivisions.
The voters' 97.2 per cent approval of the bond issue, moreover, make possible the early development of a new Industrial South area along the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific railroads, adjacent to the Santa Ana Freeway, offering unique facilities to incoming plants, the spokesman pointed out.
He noted also that revenue from the water and power systems will pay for the bond issue, rather than basing it on property levies. The bonds are to run 20 years at 4 per cent interest.
Chamber officials, who have launched a year of housing development promotion to encourage new home building and to welcome newcomers, both home buyers and industrialists, declared this water and power expansion program will cinch this area's position as the center of Orange county industry and citraculture.
Home shoppers are being added at a special "Welcome House" on Manchester - Firestone Blvd., between Loara and Lincoln Sts. Subdivisions are cited by "Welcome Way" markers along Anaheim's main streets for the convenience of thousands of visitors and Anaheim workers who presently live outside the area.
