HENRY KUCHEL 75 Years Ago August 1877 A San Buenaventura dispatch says that the annual migration of bull seals has arrived at St. Nicholas, Cape San Miguel and the Santa Cruz islands. They are three weeks later than usual. The slaughter has commenced. The bulls are very fat this year, yielding large quantities of oil. They generally remain about six weeks during which time their barking and fighting of the animals and the popping of the rifles render the scene a pandemonium. Tamiet, the Los Angeles councilman who has been undergone a preliminary examination on a charge of forgery, attempted suicide in Los Angeles yesterday morning by shooting himself in the head. He gave as a reason for the attempt at suicide, that his friends had all deserted him. A dispatch to the Gazette last evening says that Tamiet is still alive. He is at the French hospital. Anyone having one or two loads of green feed to sell cheap can hear of a purchaser by applying at this office. We are informed that surveyor Hansen will come to Anaheim in about two weeks to finish the survey of the town. One of the Marshal's prisoners attempted to escape from him yesterday afternoon. He was captured in the vineyard of Mr. Langenberger. Lemon St., Anaheim, won first place in the August production slogan contest at the Anaheim Division of Northrop Aircraft, Inc., it has been announced. Mr. Daily's winning word combination was "4-C The Future—Constantly Consider Construction Costs." The monthly competition at Northrop-Anaheim resulted in the entry of several hundred slogans, each designed to emphasize the need for continued high production and efficiency at the plant. A prize is awarded to the winner each month and three grand prizes will be given later for the top three slogans submitted during the year. Mr. Daily, a tool engineer, chose a croquet set as his prize from a list of available awards. All Northrop-Anaheim personnel are eligible to compete in the contest. Jessie L. Holmes Dies in Fuller Jessie L.
