12 Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, JULY 21, 1908 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Monarch's Plane Will Have Throne, King-Sized Bed WASHINGTON (P) — The King of Saudi Arabia is getting a four-engine American airplane equipped with a king-size bed and an elevated revolving throne, complete with safety belt. Transocean Air Lines said the plane, one of five Douglas DC4 Skymasters sold to Saudi Arabia, is being converted at Oakland, Calif., into the "most plush of all personal transports." The company said the throne, on the King's orders, must be raised above the floor and must rotate 360 degrees. It will have a safety belt stressed to withstand a "10-G force"—a pull 10 times that of gravity. The royal bed, decorated with the royal crest, will be truly king-size to accommodate the six-foot-plus monarch. Putnam. They are: Trucking outfits; tool and die enterprises; automotive repair; logging operations and sawmills; building and construction industry; all Alaska concerns; new small businesses which expect to hire more than eight employees soon; concerns in which the pay of one or more employees is set up on an industry or area basis; and enterprises other than banks which get 25 per cent or more of their business income from dividends, interest, rents or royalties. Shop Friday Night 'Til 9 Motorists Warned Against Wearing Nite Dark Glasses SACRAMENTO (UP) — Clifford E. Peterson, California Highway Patrol Commissioner, today warned motorists against wearing colored glasses for night driving. While the glasses do cut down glare from oncoming headlights—as the manufacturers say they will—they also cut the motorists vision by as much as 60 per cent, Peterson said. “Experts in the fields of vision and law enforcement all agree colored glasses do not add anything to safe driving at night and can cause extremely dangerous situations,” Peterson told a monthly meeting of Gov. Warren's department heads. Peterson pointed out his warning did not apply to the use of tinted windshields or prescription eyeglasses with a tint. J., mother of a four-month-old daughter. Mrs. Berard's parachute failed to open when she took her first jump at Budd Lake, N. J., to become a member of a parachuting-for-fun club founded by her husband, an ex-paratrooper. He collapsed after screaming, "I killed her, I killed her." Summer Vacation Tip: Steer Clear Of Death Valley Cow Creek Area By The Associated Press away, a nine-man crew of Pa- Summer Vacation Tip: Steer Clear Of Death Valley Cow Creek Area By The Associated Press If this summer's steam-bath weather has left you feeling like a broiled lobster, here's a vacation travel tip: Steer clear of Cow creek, in Death Valley, Calif. It's the nation's hottest spot. Nobody lives at Cow creek, w weather station 152 feet below sea level. But at Greenland Ranch in the heart of Death Valley, only 20 miles away, a nine-man crew of Pacific Coast Borax company employees work the year 'round. Charles A. Scholl, crew super-intendent recalls that last summer's high was only 126 degrees. He remembers it hit 132 in 1931. Cow creek's average daytime high in July last year was 117 degrees. It cooled off to an average of 89 at night and the overall average for the month was 103.5. The readings are taken by National Park rangers who come down weekly from 2300-foot high Emigrant Pass. But for year 'round damp heat, you can't beat Tavernier, Fla., 50 miles south of Miami in the Florida Keys. Its annual average temperature of 77.2 is the highest in the nation. Tavernier, with a population of 500, probably is the Northern Hemisphere's nearest approach to the climate of the South Sea Islands. The city has never had frost; the temperature never has reached 100. Its residents wear mid-summer clothing all year. Coconut palms, hibiscus, bougainvillea and other tropical plants grow from the thin soil and limestone. This damp heat also prevails at times during the summer months along the Gulf Coast and as far up the Atlantic Coast as Wilmington, N.C. It's at these times that the steaming residents will tell you: "It isn't the heat as much as the humidity." Adolf Schoepe, president, reported Saturday at the annual meeting of company employees in AUHS auditorium. The sales figure was erroneously reported here as profits. Following fund reservation for company growth and returns on invested capital, 25 per cent of the net profits were reserved or disbursed to finance employees' participation in the Kwikset profit sharing plan. Payments to employees participating in the Cash Profit Sharing plan have been made regularly each quarter; those employees eligible to participate in the Deferred Profit Sharing plan will benefit in the form of annuities payable on retirement. Funds for this purpose, amounting to more than $42,000 for the fiscal year just ended, have been deposited in trust for employees.
