MOURNING ARGENTINES JAM STREETS—May Avenue in Buenos Aires is pammed with thousands who came to mourn the first lady of Argentina, Eva Peron. In background, hanging from the wall of Government House is a huge picture of Eva, draped in black. Hundreds of thousands of Argentines jammed the streets to pay final tribute to the wife and political helper of President Juan D. Peron. HORSE OPENS WRONG DOOR MT. VERNON, Nil. SCHOONER HEADS FOR TAHITI WILMINGTON, Calif. (AP) — Three young Navy veterans sailed off recently in their 43-foot schooner, Camarada, bent on following in the wake of the Kon Tiki, a raft full of scientists which drifted from Chile to the South Seas. The trio, Frank Thatcher, 26, Pat Swift, 26, and Miles Wyatt, 27, explained they would work their way down the coast; stopping at La Paz and Acapulco, Mexico, then at Panama and South American ports. "We plan to be gone 18 to 24 months," said Thatcher, "depending on how long the money holds out." After they reach Valparaiso, Chile, they will turn west toward the Marquesas and Tahiti. Earl Warren's political star is setting . . . Could that mean that the personable Anaheimer is going to move up another rung on the political ladder? When Nixon is elected, the governor is to appoint his GOPolitical successor in the senate . . . Guess that Orangethorpe rancher, Forrest Buster Callan served on the central committee too early. New is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the GOParty. (CNS) — Although the yearly rate of admission to California's nine mental hospitals increased by more than 2000, increase in population of the institutions for the 1951-52 fiscal year was held to less than a thousand, Dr. Frank F. Tallman, state director of mental hygiene, has reported to the governor's council. Total population in the hospitals as of June 30 was 33,254 patients, he said. Admissions from July 1, 1951, to July 1, 1952, totaled 15,728. Although the resident population of the institutions is up, Tallman noted the actual number of patients per 100,000 civilian population is down, from 304.2 on June 30, 1951, to 302.8 on June 30 of this year. Tallman said completion of additional ward units at several of the mental institutions during the year raised their combined normal capacity from 28,301 to 29,926 beds, an increase of 1825. Nevertheless, overcrowding remains high at the Norwalk, Agnew, and Patton hospitals. The department hopes to alleviate some of the crowding during the present fiscal year by transferring some patients between institutions, and by completion of additional wards at Napa and Stockton late next spring, Tallman said. Communists Cure Interest Rates KONG KONG. (UP)—Communists banks in China cut interest to private industry as much as 50 per cent last month, the ping radio says. This appears to be a Communist effort to speed up dustry, which was crippled by Reds' recent so-called "anruption" campaign against p-industry in Red China. Some of the industries were fined so heavily they shut down have been granted loans and big government to get them operating again. Ping said the new interest to private industry ranged 1.05 to 1.65 per cent. U.S. Aid Builds New Hospital HANOI, Indochina. No pirate is behind these "invasions" from the skies, they're flying saucers. You've read about them. Now, if you look, you can see 'em. Several Anaheimers have. COMMENTARY — Dan Patch, Orange county civilian defense coordinator, says Orange county cities have a lackadaisical attitude toward civilian defense. Ain't that something for a capable administrator to say? The civilian defense people are responsible for the general public attitude. Long before Patch took his well paying job as Orange county civilian defense coordinator, the able Anaheim city council was civilian defense conscious. They were ready and willing to cooperate with any program that would guarantee Anaheimers any reasonable measure of security, but the state and federal civilian defense administrators were—and are—acting like nabes in the woods... The civilian defense program would be a whole lot better off, if men like Dan would act and get action instead of talking and criticizing. The people are willing to cooperate — but the civilian defense setup is a muddle. If you don't believe me, ask Anaheim's energetic American Legion commander, Tom Hoag. He'll tell you the heartbreaking story; a story based on the facts of a sad situation. NUGGETS—Looks like at long last Edward G. Robinson's 18-year-old-son will go on trial for assertedly issuing bad checks. The movie tough guy who really isn't so tough at all, was an interested spectator at the initial proceeding. Mrs. Donna Del Giorgio is right in her fight against the incorporation of some 200 acres of farmland into Buena Park. The only reason, it seems, that the land was included was "because Fullerton would grab it if Buena Park didn't." Paul Kroesen, Buena Park publisher who is leading the incorporation issue, has given this legitimate protest a deaf ear. A petition with 750 signatures has been filed. The next move is up to the supervisors. ANECDOTE — "Y' know," a former Anahi star athlete said, "I nearly got kicked off the varsity basketball squad because I called the coach by his first name. Some people are mighty sensitive about their given names." It just happened to crop up while discussing home of the outstanding basketball and track coach, but he's rather sensitive about the first name his folks pinned on him. I know." The family recently finished their 40-foot schooner, The Enif, in their backyard and now have visions of entering the beautiful vessel in the 1953 Honolulu race. Williams, a former sea captain, hand sewed the sails for the yacht working over 560 square feet of canvas in the family's living room. Hits Cop's Car Twice NEW YORK. He agitatedly put on his glasses and on the way home bumped in to two cars, one of them the same detective's car he had collided with earlier.
