Anaheim Gazette by JOHN S. NEUBAUER Where there is no vision, the people will perish.—Prov. 20:18. PERSONALITIES — Martin Echeto, the Yorba Linda 20-30 club gear, not only is an outstanding softballer, but he is one of Orange county's leading handball players. His ability stems from his Basque heritage... Tom Dollarhide wanted himself a summer job as a juvenile counselor, but since there is no opening, he's working in a gas station... Jim Medders, the Buena Park barber, is having his troubles too. His fingers haven't quite thawed out from the winter he spent in Korea with the Gyrenes. But the guy ain't complainin'... John Tynes is again supervising Placentia's recreational program this summer. Tynes, beside being Valencia's able athletic director, is also a city councilman... Incidentally, Bud Goodell is mighty happy that he had the opportunity to switch from Fullerhi to Valencia Hi. Less political persuure. WORD TO THE WISE—The long Fourth of July week-end is coming up. If you plan to go anywhere, plan to come back. The highway holocaust will again take its deadly toll. Don't be one of the holiday statistics! LINE-O-TYPES—Ted Elmers is another one of those personable chaps who understands the automotive business... Leonard Eggert is an expert when it comes to electronic devices. The most difficult contraption becomes simple when you have the know-how... Willie Schuppert is one of those good natured chaps who enjoys the pursuit of happiness... Alex Scott is a master plumber today because he didn't believe what the doc said about his life expectancy. It seems that a lot of medicos give up on some of their patients who won't. Scottie is still around, hail and hearty. His doctor? Why, he's dead... John Bashara is a fellow who can help out Mother Nature. That's a landscapeer's job, y'know... George Jones has hooked the old trailer on the wagon and headed out for civic duties... Eugene Leverich isn't looking for another good deal. It seems that he got one when an influential Army officer told him he'd fix it. The officer got transferred... Wonder how Eddie Helms is making out. The guy sprained his ankle playing ball down at the City park, but that doesn't keep him from his laboratory. JUNE CHRISTMAS—Donald O'Connor celebrates trimmings at his Old 45th Division soldier line bunker in Korea after their observance of Christmas Added feature for the REMINDER—Summer time is the time to do planning for flood control. The county has repaired the Raymond ave. bridge over that Carbon Canyon gully that does the damage when winter and spring rains come. Has anything been done about keeping the north end of town dry during the rainy season? NOTES—Del Jones, the Placentia city councilman, was quite a ball player in his day. He played with a lot of the names you read in major league box scores. Hugh Jones of Brea is another of those public spirited fellows who devote a lot of time to ELKS CHARITY BENEFIT RICHARDS - MARTIN DANCE PAGEANT THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 8 P.M. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the creditors of and all persons having claims against the said decedent New Slogan Concocted for Hoag Hospital Every patient's room is an outside room, and all rooms have a view, most of them an ocean view. This is the situation at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Presbyterian, where the hill-top site is now being made one of the show places of Orange county, according to John A. Murdy Jr., president of the hospital board. This hospital, built entirely by private funds with no help from state or federal sources, is a truly American, free enterprise project. Non-profit and non-sectarian, the institution will be operated on an economical basis yet providing the best scientific treatment with complete medical care. President Murdy says funds to pay for the $1,150,000 structure, now 85 per cent completed, are already on hand and available, but there remains the task of raising $250,000 to furnish and equip the hospital so that it may open for patients in September. "I am sure," continued Murdy, "that all parts of Orange county will want to share in making this..." LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. Anaheim Gazette, June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2, 1952.) OF FEDERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION INSURED UP TO $10,000 with complete medical care. "I am sure," continued Murdy, "that all parts of Orange county will want to share in making this new coast hospital a success in every way. Already Laguna Beach Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Santa Ana have entered whole-heartedly into this new campaign. Local committees will be organized all over the county and, as noted, some sections are already at work, others are proceeding quietly and all are determined to have a part in the program." Murdy states that work on public utilities, water, sewer, gas and electric lines is under way and the installations are on a permanent basis. The slogan now suggested by Murdy is, "Open Your Hearts and We Will Open the Hospital." SAN FRANCISCO (T)—If Walter Speed had lived up to his name, he wouldn't be going to police traffic school today. Municipal Judge Homer Buckley ordered Speed to brush up on his driving because he held up traffic on the heavily-traveled San Francisco-Oakland bay bridge. Speed was going 30 miles an hour in a 40-mile limit lane. If You Drive! Don't Drink CHOKED with stomach GAS? THANK HEAVENS! Most attacks are just acid indigestion. When it strikes, take Bell-and-tablets. They contain the fastest-acting medicines known to doctors for the relief of heartburn, gas and similar distress. Sunkist Partial Return Totals Nearly $1,000,000 Checks totaling approximately one million dollars were mailed today by the Exchange Lemon Products Company to its fifty-seven member Sunkist packing associations, D. F. McMillen, general manager stated. This payment was authorized by the company board of directors at its regular meeting on June 10. The entire payment is a partial return for fruit received in the 1950-51 fiscal year. It includes an initial partial payment of $786,400 for fruit received in the stabilization and by-products pools and an additional partial payment for juice pool fruit. The current payments combined with previous juice pool payments bring total advances for the fiscal year to $2,585,000. Additional payments will be made on both pools in the future as sales proceeds accrue, Mr. McMillen said. Due to varying policies regarding fruit payment, it is possible that some Sunkist packing associations have already anticipated the current products payment through advances or credits to the member growers. It is believed that the atmosphere of Mars contains virtually no oxygen. Hallowe'en celebrations are believed to have been derived from Druid rites.
