Mary Kaye Trio Preparing Format for New TV Show
By TOM E. DANSON
HOLLYWOOD — The versatile young song and instrumental Mary Kaye Trio, which makes its premiere tonight at the Mocambo, has a brand new format for television that will feature the group in its most natural setting—the night club—for release soon. The group, under the personal management of Bill Burton, who brought recognition to such stars as Margaret Whiting, Dick Haymes, Jimmy Dorsey, Helen Forrest and Helen O'Connell, will produce the show.
With every member of the group in his 20's, the Mary Kaye Trio consists of Mary, her brother Norman Kaye, and Frank Ross, all of whom are equal partners in the organization. Mary performs on the electric guitar, Norman on the bass and piano and Frank on the accordion. However, this is not merely an instrumental group.
These versatile youngsters, who are appearing for the first time for "Uncle Charlie Morrison," each has another specialty. Mary has a singing voice of remarkable range and tone, Norman has a powerful, romantic baritone, while Frank, in addition to being able to sing "straight," has a gifted set of trick vocal chords which enable him to stand out as a comedian of unusual talents, thus injecting additional life into the act.
