Examining And Analyzing The Qualifications Of The Congressional Candidates
For the purpose of presenting a careful picture of the abilities and qualifications of the various 28th (new) District Congressional Candidates to be nominated June 3, a Voter Committee, comprised of Electors from both Orange and San Diego Counties, was formed, and the following factual data is presented:
FARRELL, David—Young man in his early thirties. Resident of Santa Ana. In several small business ventures. Registered as Republican in February, 1952, and previously had declined to state his party affiliation. His literature says he is a salesman and gives the usual panacea to reform federal government, abolish income tax, but lacks definite methods...
FARRELL, David—Young man in his early thirties. Resident of Santa Ana. In several small business ventures. Registered as Republican in February, 1952, and previously had declined to state his party affiliation. His literature says he is a salesman and gives the usual panacea to reform federal government, abolish income tax, but lacks definite methods to bring them about. Insufficient business and political experience.
KNAPPE, Oscar — Resident of Escondido for 11 years. Rancher, small businessman (oil dealer). Republican. Against Communism and socialism as are all Republican aspirants. Also against usual graft, tyranny and incompetence of Truman Administration. Literature fails to explain how to bring reforms.
LINNELL, Frank M.—Resident of Newport Beach since 1941. Twice elected prosecuting attorney in Iowa. At present city judge of Newport Beach, where he has law offices. Successful law practice So. Calif., since 1923. Lifelong Republican. San Diego Union (leading newspaper) says: "Linell appears to have a better command of language in public appearances than other candidates in the race." Then quotes Linnell: "I know how to get things done as a prosecutor to stop corruption. It is time to restore to Congress the power of the purse."
STEIGER, John A.—Only bachelor in race. Resident of Oceanside. Personable young man and stated recently making the race for experience and acquaintance, which would be valuable in future campaigns rather than in hope of winning this one. Realtor and insurance man. Failed to answer questions on the issues put to him recently by Santa Ana Independent.
UTT, James B.—Born in Tustin. Comes from wealthy, pioneer family of ranchers. Admitted to bar 1946. Member of California Legislature two terms, 1932-34. Defeated by State Senator Clyde Watson of Orange for third term. Defeated for Santa Ana City Council in 1947. Last 16 years In

Whispering Camp of Slander Denounce by Sam L. Collins
The vicious whispering campaign that has proceeded under cover in the county was brought into the open today when Speaker Sam L. Collins called his opponent account for smear efforts.
Collins pinned the whispering campaign directly upon Murdy, showing by May 9 that the slanderous whispering campaign had been deliberately planned and Murdy was warned in a letter from Collins that, should he proceed with a derous statements, appropriate legal action would be taken. Collins wrote Murdy.

Dear Sir:
I have before me the proposed editorial of the Costa Meadows
May 29, 1952, entitled “Time To Speak Out.” A rewrite of
above this editorial appears the following:
“Editor Fred Allen has given permission for your rewrite as you see fit.”
I have read this proposed editorial in full. The whole is an absolute falsehood. It is in my opinion libelous and misleading.
This is the proposed editorial you delivered in person toington Beach News, last Monday night. Mr. Farquhar wrote it without comment to Mr. Farquhar in your presence.
You can no longer claim to know nothing about the Whole parcel of it. I quote from your Bulletin under date of its appears:
“We WERE ADVISED BY OUR COMMITTEE COUNTERING WEWOULDACHIEVEAGREATERSUCCESS THANBYANYOTHERMETHODWEMIGHTPORTTHATTHISADVICEHASBEENCORRECTED”
I do not propose to permit you and your hirelings to combine half truths with garbled meanings.
Proceed with this publication if you desire, but do so with libelous and slanderous and you published it. I shall look for true should you desire to direct its further publication.

COMMUNIST OFFICIAL TRRS'
HONG KONG (P) — This is a boiled-down history of a Chinese Communist who "deviated and deteriorated."
Yeh Chin Ming became a communist in 1928 and for 21 years accepted Spartan self-denial. After the reds captured Shanghai in 1949, Yeh was made the director of public utility of the Shanghai Municipal People's government.
Fifteen months later Yeh had a 20-room house with a garden and swimming pool and two cars at all times. He sent his four sons away to school.
Recently the red newspaper, Liberation Daily, reported that Yeh was denounced for charging an $8400 rent bill for the house to the government by listing it as a dormitory and for driving both cars to Hangchow and using up 65 gallons of gasoline instead of going by train.
He has been called on to "review and rectify himself."
