Faulkner Asks Voters Support For Third District Reactivation
In this, the last of a series of published statements regarding my candidacy for Supervisor, I feel that I should summarize my background and record, which I feel qualifies me to give the Third district improved representation on the Board of Supervisors.
Perhaps I am not an Old Timer as my opponent points out. But when I get along in my seventies then I, too, can say that I am an Old Timer, when compared to a young man of 38.
Veteran Teacher Summer Study Rules Revealed
World War II veterans who now employed as school teachers in the Orange county area who plan to use their GI Bill entitlement for study this summer were reminded today that they can obtain advice on federal regulations concerning summer school enrollment from the County Service Office, 225 North Broadway, Santa Aha.
A new Veterans Administration regulation on educational assistance for teacher-veterans will want to pursue summer study between their regular teaching periods was issued earlier this month by the Veterans Administration, Ben Liebermann, Orange county Veterans Service office said.
There are important differences between the new regulation and the one issued last year which may be confusing to some teachers veterans who are planning to take up further study under the GI Bill, the service officer explained.
Those who aren't familiar with the most recent ruling concerning their eligibility for federal education in summer school are urged to come in for full information.
All teacher-veterans apply for GI Bill study this summer who have to present a supporting statement from a responsible school official, certifying that they have been regularly employed in teaching during the 1951-52 school year.
To draw GI assistance the teachers must attend summer session at least five times a week.
my candidacy for Supervisor, I feel that I should summarize my background and record, which I feel qualifies me to give the Third district improved representation on the Board of Supervisors.
Perhaps I am not an Old Timer as my opponent points out. But when I get along in my seventies then I, too, can say that I am an Old Timer, when compared to a young man of $8.
But I have lived long enough in Orange county to know its problems. You wouldn't have to live here very long to see that the Third district has some very serious ones, and that nothing is being done about them. I have reviewed them in previous statements.
I am anxious to do something about them, because I have a $100,000 investment in property, and because, as any civic-minded person would, I think others should have their property interests projected, too. Is there anyone in the Third district who could truthfully say that their interests are being protected? Not after last winter's rains, as one example.
Referring to myself as civic-minded, I should explain that I have served two years as president of a chamber of commerce, and as a member of the Board of Directors, Associated Chambers of Commerce of Orange County. This year I headed the March of Dimes in Buena Park area, and served as general chairman of Home Town Day there. I belong to the American Legion, having served in the Air Force during World War II.
Although my private business income is many times the salary of Supervisor, I am ready to serve in that office, because I honestly believe—I know—that something ought to be done to correct the situation which affects all of us in the Third District.
I am not representing this as any personal sacrifice. I expect to benefit from improved service like the rest of you. I do not wish to intimate that I would be giving up my private income—no Supervisor does that, since it is nomi-
I founded was an Aviation Business which was doing a gross business of more than $250,000 a year when I disposed of it in 1949. I also am business manager of two hospitals.
My home is on 10 acres in the West Anaheim district, where I raise purebred herdors for breeding purposes.
These facts are presented only to show that I know modern business methods and have grounds for saying that I have the business ability needed—and needed badly—to get things done in the Third District.
I realize that there are some who do not want change. A list of so-called endorsers of the present Supervisor, as published, betrayed two facts. One is that he is endorsed by the political machine that he not long ago endorsed for city offices, and which group has since acquired bad odor in that city by its activities. It is not an endorsement that I would care to have, myself.
The other fact betrayed is that the names published include a number that actually are sponsoring my candidacy and who said their names were used without permission. What goes on here?
In conclusion, let me say that I have tried to see everyone I could personally contact throughout the district, and regret I could not see all. People always get the kind of government they deserve and deserves the kind of government they get, because they are the ones who elect the officials. My pledge to everyone, if elected Supervisor on June 3rd, is an ing their eligibility for federal in summer school are urged come in for full information.

Cancer Society Emphasizes Living Memorials Plan
With Memorial Day approaching, the Orange county branch of the American Cancer society is planning a special emphasis on its "Living" memorial program was announced today by Mrs. Van Wagoner, Unit and Campan chairman for Anaheim.
"Making a contribution to the Memorial Fund of the Cancer society is a realistic and practical way to help save the living and memorialize those who have died." Mrs. Van Wagoner pointed out.
"The funds of the Cancer society including memorial gifts are devoted to saving lives now through its cancer educational programs and saving more lives in the future through the cancer research program." According to the local American Cancer society, memorial contributions are received almost daily the year round and in the past three months they have totaled $565.
The American Cancer society sends a simple and dignified memorial card to the family of the person in whose memory the giver is made and also sends an acknowledgment and receipt to the donor.
Mrs. Van Wagoner said, "On half of the Orange county branch of the American Cancer society want to urge support of the program of 'Living' Memorials." Memorial day. Let's help save those alive today from the dread disease of cancer."

I am not representing this as any personal sacrifice. I expect to benefit from improved service like the rest of you. I do not wish to intimate that I would be giving up my private income—no Supervisor does that, since it is nominally a part-time office. I would have plenty of time for the Supervisor's duties, because my own business operations are so well organized that I need only give them directive attention.

People always get the kind of government they deserve and deserves the kind of government they get, because they are the ones who elect the officials. My pledge to everyone, if elected Supervisor on June 3rd, is an honest and vigorous administration of the office for the best interests of the entire Third District, so that everyone may have an equal voice in their County Government. The Political bosses say I cannot win over the incumbent. Honest voters let's show them. Elect Faulkner—Pol. Adv.

Last Ditch Meet Set by County's GOP Women
The Orange County Federation of Republican Women's Clubs will sponsor a "Get Out the Vote" luncheon at the Eboll clubhouse in Santa Ana at noon on Monday, June 2, the day before the primary election, featuring a report from Washington by Congressman John Phillips, candidate for re-election in his own district and a member of the Warren delegation.
Mary Tuller Topper, president of the group, said in announcing the meeting, "We feel most fortunate that Congressman Phillips is taking time from the campaign to bring us this timely message. I know that every Republican will be impressed with the necessity of voting in the primary election after hearing him. We particularly urge the attendance of all precinct workers, and we cordially invite any interested Republican. The meeting has been scheduled in Santa Ana in the hope that many businessmen will be able to attend."
Reservations for the meeting may be made by calling Republican headquarters, Kimberly 3-0500. Cost of the luncheon will be $1.50.
Ikes Complete 76 New Check Dams Sunday
Orange County Ikes completed another project in their stream improvement program when 76 new loose rock dams were built in upper Silverado Creek last Sunday.
These dams will create large pools in the stream which, in addition to improving the fishing conditions, will conserve the water, retard erosion, and provide emergency water storage in case of fire.
Previous efforts of the local Izaak Walton League Chapters have been concentrated on Holy Jim Creek and Trabuco Creek. Plans include future improvement of Falls Creek, a tributary of Trabuco, Santiago Creek, and further work on Trabuco.
Local Ikes and Ikettes participating in the outing were Arch and Vivian Henry, Walt and Helen Riesterer, Wayne and Hatriett Held, Nick Wingert, Jack Kerr, and Clint Flynn. The work was under the direction of biologist Willis Evans and John Laughlin of the Department of Fish and Game.

SOME SAY: — the man to elect to CONGRESS
Should be a... LAWYER
Some have said a knowledge of law is imperative, for after all, Congress is the law making body of government; its issues are presented in legal terminology. Mr. Utt completed his legal training in 1946, graduating from USC, and has been a practicing attorney ever since.
SOME SAY:
GROWER
Some have said the man to represent us in Congress should understand agriculture since Orange and San Diego Counties are predominantly farm areas. Agreed, Mr. Utt fully understands farm problems, himself a farmer all his life. He began his business career planting nursery stock and has been active in citrus and avocado development for thirty years.

SOME SAY:
BUSINESS MAN
Some have said, "Enough of legal brains, enough of ranchers — let's get a good business head in Congress."
Admirable James Utt has been a successful business man all his life, organizing the Utt Juice Company instrumental in organizing the Commercial National Bank in Santa Ana and having interests in other currently thriving business enterprises. What business is more important than the proper management of our nation?

Why spend $250,000 and six years time to train an elected man in Congress when a fully qualified man is ready and able to go to work for you IMMEDIATELY.
James B. Utt served in the State Assembly with many of the present ranking Republican delegation from California. They know his ability and his record. It is therefore natural that he would receive important committee assignments, of value to the 28th District, immediately.
