Anaheim High Baseball Victory Over Tustin Features Triple Play
After a six-in-love battle that was highlighted by a triple play and saw the locals come from behind twice to tie up the ball game, Anaheim high’s baseball team dropped a practice game, 9-6, to Tustin high in a game held last night on the La Palma’ park diamond.
Tuesday the Colonists won their league opener against Santa Ana, 2-0 and this afternoon were scheduled to take on Huntington Beach in their second loop contest.
Yesterday’s practice tilt opened with three runs scored for Tustin in the first and second frames as a triple scored a walked batter in the opening canto and a walk and two successive singles scored two more in the second. Dick Gonzales, in his first hurling of the year, chucked the first two.
The Colonists then opened up with a brief barrage of hits to tie the score at 3-3, as reserve pitcher Eddie Harker took over mound duties. The rally got going as Lupe Gonzales got on a base-on-basis. Roberts made first on a fielder’s choice. Steinborn walked and Wiethorn singled to score Roberta. Steinborn then scored on a fielder’s choice and Wiethorn came home on Bishop’s infield out.
The fourth inning saw an attempted Colonist rally squashed as the Anaheimers hit into one of those once-in-a-lifetime triple playk. It all began as Fred Head singled then Dick Gonzales walked and Lupe Gonzales lined out to second base. The alert Tustin men fired from second to first to beat out Lupe, then fired to shortstop to tag Head to retire the side.
FOR THE FIRST four innings neither side was able to score a run. Then in the top of the eighth Tustin scored two men on a single after a walk and error. The Colonists charged back in their halt the inning, however, to briefly tie up the game again at 5-3 as Bishop got on on an error, Hatfield walked, and Bishop came in on D. Gonzales’ infield out. Hatfield roared home on a bad pitch.
It appeared Tustin was to retire scoreless in the top of the ninth as a brisk double play put two potential scorers out of business. Then the roof caved in as Tustin batters cracked out three quick singles and Burke, who already had two RBI’s for the day, smashed out a triple to score three runs. Burke himself came home on an error.
Anaheim’s final run came in their half of the ninth as Wiethorn, safe on an error, came in on Hererra’s triple.

Arbiso gave up only five and struck out 10 men. Koopman pitcher gave up three hits, walked seven batters.
Shortstop Dick Gulman of Merchants collected a two blow in the sixth inning to dunk Richard Arbisco with the breaking run. Left field Necek highlighted the game by ting a towering triple to ceil field, only to be thrown out the plate when he tried to make into a homer.

Seattle Begins to Show Signs of Life As Team Take Second Straight from LA
After a dismal start, Seattle pre-season favorite to repeat as Pacific Coast League champion, is showing signs of power.
Bill Sweeney's Rainiers have tied into Los Angeles, a club or proven strength, and come up with two impressive wins. The boys from Washington took the series opener 1-0 in a 10-inning pitcher's duel and came back last night to blast five pitchers for 15 hits and a 15-6 decision.
The victories pulled Seattle out of the eighth place, 6½ games behind the leading San Diego Padres.
The Angels' sixth loss in seven games dropped them to third. Manager Stan Hack employed five fliers. Ace Eddie Chandler failed to survive the first inning, in which Seattle racked up four runs.
Al Lyons was the most murderous of the ramaging Rainiers, accounting for six runs, three of them on a bases-loaded triple and another on a homer. George Vico also homered with two aboard.
THE PORTLAND - Oakland game was rained out and they'll play a double-header tonight.

In the final frame Sacramento loaded the bags but the game ended on a ludicrous note. First baseman Mike Glynn bounced one off the right field wall but confusion ensued and only one runner scored. The other two were trapped in a double play.
At San Diego the Padres made it two in a row over San Francisco. They grabbed a 6-0 lead in the first inning and went on to win 7-4. The six tallies came on four hits, two walks, two errors and a hit batsman. Al Lien, Seal starter, and reliefer Matt Zidich were both jerked in the first and it took Bill Boemler to finally retire the side.

The impact of Stanky's presence in the lineup against Brooklyn could be seen in the very first inning. "Stanky walked" the play.

The 30th annual Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Championships will be held during the week or June 16 on the courts of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Beaten Tuesday night by Brooklyn's Preacher Roe for the eighth straight time and wandering two games under 500, manager Stanky finally pulled the sheets off second baseman Stanky.
The impact of Stanky's presence in the lineup against Brooklyn could be seen in the very first inning. "Stanky walked" the play-by-play read. Before the first inning was over it also read "Stanky doubled down the left field line, Westlake and Bilko scoring." The Cards scored six runs in that first inning, knocking out Chris Van Cuckk.
Stanky walked twice more before the night was over while Gerry Staley, his ace, became the first four-time winner in the major leagues this season. It was his ninth straight since last August.
Red Schoendienst, shifted to third base, took to his new position like a duck to water. He handled four chances faultlessly and smashed a bases-loaded home run off Bud Pooblefan in the fifth inning.
While the debut of Stanky and the Brooks' crushing 14-2 defeat stole the play in the National League, the American was saying its farewells to two fine ball players—Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox and Gerry Coleman of the New York Yankees, both of whom go into the Marines.
