Garden Social Arranged by Magnolia P-TA
Mrs. John Brooks, Ways and Means chairman of Magnolia P-TA will open her home at 9342 Hillview st., for a box garden social and square dance the evening of May 17.
Assisting Mrs. Brooks will be her committee members: Mrs. Roy Fierce, Mrs. Jack Parsons, Mrs. Robert Cook, Mrs. Richard S. Yater, Mrs. Charles Pruett and Mrs. Edmund R. Cook.
The committee met to formulate plans at the home of chairman, Wednesday, for brunch of doughnuts and coffee.
The event is to have a three fold purpose: to allow the Magnolia group to become better acquainted with her neighboring units who are being sent invitations, the Loara P-TA, Savanna P-TA and the Katella P-TL; fund raising and a good old fashioned party with the entire community invited.

Nursing Scholarship Fund to be Set Aside By Med. Auxiliary
The establishment of two $150 nursing scholarships to be awarded by the Women's Auxiliary to the Orange County Medical association, to deserving students of the county high schools and colleges was announced during an afternoon tea held on April 21 at the Orange County hospital.
Mrs. Raymond Brandt, acting chairman of the project and community service committee of the auxiliary, conducted the program.
Mrs. J. F. Renshow, president of the auxiliary, presented Mrs. Dorothy Kaladic, director of nurses, a $100 check from the auxiliary to be used in the nurses' home.
Mrs. Renshow told the students present of the auxiliary student loan fund available to student nurses in the institution in need of financial assistance. Mrs. Fred M. Hansen, chairman of the Student Loan Fund, and her committee work with Miss Pauline Buzell, R.N., educational director of the student nurses at the county hospital in distribution of the student loan fund.
Mrs. Logan Wheatley, R.N., of the Visiting Nurse Association, spoke on that phase of nursing and the "challenge it presents to the graduate nurse."
Cancer Society Corsages on Sale In Anaheim Today
The Orange County Florist assn. Cancer Drive Corsage sale began today and will continue between the hours of 12 noon and 9 p.m. The Business and Professional Women's Assn. will handle sales on the streets of Anaheim and throughout stores and offices in the city.
All flowers, supplies and labor for the corsages is being provided by Anaheim florists and florists of the entire county. All donations will be turned over to the local Cancer drive officials of the American Cancer Society. Local florist and Cancer drive workers feel this year's flower sale will be greater than the success of last year's sale.

Music Program Highlights Dinner
The Brotherhood dinner at Bethel Baptist church recently, featured an enjoyable evening of music and a talk on Christian living by John Stommel, Pasadena business man.
First timers and special guests were introduced by Harry Fox, president of the group. Featured on the musical part of the program were Arnie Hartman, Ernest James, Velma Sharp, Lora Keller and Tom Griffith of Santa Ana.

Bobbie Boyd Gets Rate Hike to Sgt.
WITH THE 1ST CAVALRY DIV. IN JAPAN—Bobbie D. Boyd, 10922½ Chestnut, Los Alamitos, Calif., has been promoted to sergeant while on security duty with the 1st Cavalry Division on Hokkaido, northern-most island of Japan.
The division, rotated to Japan in December after 17 months in Korea, is also undergoing a large-scale tactical training program.
Sergeant Boyd is a member of the 5th Cavalry Regiment.

Installation for Franklin P-TA
Mrs. S. L. Keith was installed president of Benjamin Franklin P-TA at a meeting held in the school auditorium with Mrs. Arthur Korn as installing officer.
Special speaker for the evening was William Saucerman, director of instruction of the superintendent of Orange county schools office. Saucerman stated the necessity of controlling fear in both children and adults. He also showed a film to illustrate his subject and ended his talk with the thought, "Let us try to do things with our children instead of doing things to them."
The meeting was opened by retiring president, Mrs. Glenn Kirk. Music was presented by Marjorie Cranston.
Announcement was made by Mrs. Gilbert Koehler of a rag drive to be held May 5 though 9. A grease drive will also be held for the benefit of Benjamin Franklin Cub Scout Pack 105. The grease may be brought to the school April 30 in metal or paper containers.
Mrs. Keith gave a short review of her recent trip to P-TA convention in San Francisco. Room count was won by Mrs. Lastrell's first grade. Afternoon kindergarten mothers were hostesses at the refreshment hour.

Orange Drive-In Theatre Holds Contest to Select 'Miss Judy Holliday of Orange County'
A county wide search for "Miss Judy Holliday of Orange County" is being conducted by the Orange Drive-In Theatre. The winner, who will be selected for greatest resemblance and ability to make people laugh, will be awarded many wonderful prizes on the stage of the Orange Drive-In Theatre, Friday, May 2nd, followed by an escorted personal tour of the Columbia Studio sets where "The Marrying Kind" was filmed.
Entries for the contest, which closes on April 30th, require only your own photo or that of a friend. Photos should be mailed to the Orange Drive-In Theatre, Highway 101 at Placentia, Orange, Calif., as soon as possible to be included in the judging.
