Anaheim Gazette THURSDAY, APRIL 24, 1938 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Social and Club Activities Pat Terrebonne — 2208 Charter Member Of Herb Society Addresses Dept. "Herbs and Their Uses," a talk by Mrs. Charles Downey, charter member of the Orange County Herb Society, formed an intererting program topic for members of Anaheim Home department at their Tuesday meeting. The group convened at the home of Mrs. Jesse Anderson on S. Citron st. The speaker brought jars of dried herbs as well as fresh herbs and discussed the society's garden in Santa Ana. Mrs. Doris Holliday showed colored slides of gardens and desert flowers and scenes taken on a recent trip east. Nominating committee report was made by Mrs. R. R. Schwartzbach and Mrs. Ralph Mauerhan gave the director's report. Announcements were made of the 4-H club's style show, in conjunction with the SQR store, to be held April 26 at 2 p.m. in the Ebell clubhouse. Annual home demonstration day is April 30 at the Ebell club; annual summer camp, June 1 to 5. Attendance contest closes at the May meeting. A camellia corsage demonstration was given by Mrs. M. L. Bose. Assisting with the share-the-cost luncheon at noon were Mrs. Fremont Board Plans Program For Schools Week Fremont P-TA board met Wednesday morning in the home of the president, Mrs. Conan W. Gray with 21 members attending. The April association meeting will be April 29. This meeting will be held in connection with Fremont's open house during Public Schools Week. The program as follows: 7 to 7:30 p.m.-8th grade demonstration by the girls under Miss Adah IWlcox and 8th grade boys under Carl Bernacker—in the gym. The gym will be cleared so these spectators may view the classrooms which are open. The 7th grade parents will have had the opportunity to visit the rooms during the 7-7:30 p.m. period and they will then attend the demonstration in the gymnasium. 7:30-8 p.m.-7th grade demonstration by the girls under Miss Wilcox and 7th grade boys under Mr. Bernacker—in the gymnasium. 8 p.m. sharp—Musical program in the auditorium where A. E. Bourne will present the student orchestra. This will be followed by a short P-TA meeting and installation of officers by sponsor, Mrs. Claude Neer of Santa Ana. Layette Shower In Demaree Home Mrs. Tommy Thomason, wife of the Anaheim YMCA general secretary, was the honored guest Monday evening at a layette shower given in the Paul Demaree home on West Sycamore St. Guests were lady members and wives of members of the Board of Directors and the Women's Advisory committee of the YMCA. Mrs. James Morris, Mrs. Frank Kellogg, Mrs. Paul Demaree, Mrs. Walter Taylor, Mrs. Charles Pannier and Mrs. Harwood Larson served as hostesses. The spacious Demaree home was beautifully decorated with pink and blue spring flowers. Centering the table was a lovely arrangement of sweet peas and forget-me-nots with bouquets of cecil brunner roses and forget-me-nots on each card table. On a smaller table before the fireplace Mrs. C. L. Spencer had prepared a pink tissue-paper covered bassinette in which lay a small baby doll with an angel doll standing guard. Several appropriate baby shower games and court whist were played with prizes going to Mrs. Thomason, Mrs. George Kohlenberger, Mrs. John A. Wood, and Mrs. Ed Hawkins. Mrs. Thomasen was presented with a maple crib and mattress with a gift card designed by all the guests. The majority of the parents are in favor of continuing the program next year. No dance classes will be held next week, during Public Schools Week. A dance party with combined 7th and 8th grade classes will be May 23, at the Ebell club. Mrs. Lloyd Ross, health chairman, reported on the dental clinic held April 16 at the school. About 300 students were examined by Dr. Howard Tews and Mr. J. Niels Boege and two assistants with Mrs. Carls Lemke, Mrs. Claud Sympson and Mrs. Ross, mothers assisting them. Mrs. F. E. Elliott gave a report on student welfare. Ways and Means chairman, Mrs. W. L. Hollowell, announced a candy sale to be held in each home room at open house. The candy to be brought to the school cafeteria, Tuesday morning. Mrs. Conan Gray announced the Fremont graduation for June 11, 7 p.m., at the Greek Theater, Anaheim City park. Eighth grade class picnic June 12. Anaheim Council of Parents and Teachers, Friday, April 25, at La Palma Recreation Center, 317 E. La Palma st. Fourth District P-TA meeting at Fullerton, May 15, topic, "Future Leaders of the Community." Mrs. A. E. Bourne, Mrs. Forrest Simonton, Mrs. S. L. Keith and Mrs. Gray, reported briefly on conferences and general sessions of State Convention at San Francisco, which they attended. The May association meeting will be May 20 at 2:30 p.m., with the parents of 6th grade students... Several appropriate baby shower games and court whist were played with prizes going to Mrs. Thomason, Mrs. George Kohlenberger, Mrs. John A. Wood, and Mrs. Ed Hawkins. Keith in behalf of the board members, in appreciation for the work she has done this year. The meeting closed with the hostesses, Mrs. Roy Dargatz and Mrs. Dave Schwemmer serving coffee and rolls.
