Supervisors Laud County Employees For 'Know Your Government' Project
Time and money contributed by Orange county employees in preparing Demonstration Day, May 17, in connection with their "Know Your County Government" project, also demonstrate devotion on their part to public service, in the opinion of county officials, as expressed today.
Supervisor C. M. Featherly of Santa Ana said it proves that county employees "have a high sense of responsibility."
"It proves," said Featherly, "that they have an unusual regard for their duty as public employees.
"They are not only making this effort to inform the public of the workings of county government—to show the people what their tax money pays for—they are doing it on their own time and at their own expense.
"My observation of county government as a Supervisor has shown me that county employees have a high level of efficiency. They have to be at least as good as employees in private industry, and for the most part the requirements of their work are even more rigid than in private industry.
"When we find them going even farther than their jobs obligate them to do, and not only wanting to inform the public of what they are doing, but also willing to devote their own spare time and spend their own money to do so, I think that is a fine example of public service."
The county employees will present the demonstration of county government on a Saturday, which is a holiday for them. In addition, they are devoting many hours of work in their spare time to prepare the demonstration.
Supervisor Featherly will contribute a plaque to the county department making the best showing on D-Day.

that ball clerks be deputized for outlying towns to facilitate the handling of traffic fines, and that a messenger system be inaugurated to pick up bail monies and prisoners that have to be transported to the municipal court from the outlying areas. That would necessitate something on the order of a "Black Maria" or paddy-wagon, he explained.

tential candidate who might rally the split Democratic camp.
Truman has expressed no preference for a successor but it is known he thinks highly of Stevenson and is lukewarm to Kefauver. Russell has strong support in the South but his vote-pulling power is untested elsewhere and Kerr's campaign has gotten off to a slow start.
McMahons campaign was launched officially only yesterday. Connecticut Democrats insisted he is not merely a favorite son but was a full-fledged candidate for the White House. The move had unanimous approval of the state's Democratic central commette.
Russell picked up his first full slate of pledged delegates yesterday. The South Carolina Democratic convention agreed to give him its 16 national convention votes "for as long as his name is in nomination."
where, Grace Brinkley also resided.
The will provides that the brother shall be sole heir, the estate including the property at 312 S. Clementine st. and personal property valued at "less than $10,000." A sister of the deceased was omitted from the will.
New Catalina Island Station Gives Commercial, Program Policies
Plenty of melodic, popular and semi-classical music, punctuated by five minutes of news every hour and news headlines, weather reports and time signals even more frequently, will be the program policy of the new KBIG Catalina, scheduled to open early in May with dual studios in Hollywood and Avalon.
"With 10,000 watts on 740 kilocycles, KBIG will have a powerful signal throughout the Southern California community" says owner-manager John H. Poole. "It is only logical that a signal reaching 5,000,000 people should serve the widest possible segment of that population — and a preliminary 5000-sample public opinion survey shows that sweet "hummable" music plus news meets the demands of the majority. Classical, hillbilly and the extremes of jive music will be left to more specialized stations while we take music's middle road."
Talk will be minimized on the new station, except for exceptionally interesting special events. Full advantage will be taken of KBIG Catalina studios to originate general-interest programs from the island.
Except for the two or three important headline stories, news will net be repeated each hour. Instead it will be classified into specialized fields, such as sports, women's motion picture, Washington, business, etc.
Newscasts will be scheduled wherever possible at 25 minutes after the hour, both to accommodate motorists driving to and from work, and to offer a news service at a time when other stations in the area do not.
Commercial policy of KBIG will follow its program principles of avoidance of undue yakkity-yak." Length of commercial copy will follow the code of the National Association of Radio & Television Broadcasters, of which KBIG is a member. There will be no unbroken linking of multiple announcements for different sponsors.
Cliff Gill is KBIG operations manager, Alan Lisser program director and Stu Wilson production and special events manager.
