BY ROB THOMAS HOLLYWOOD UP—"Looks like the Marlon Brando holocaust has struck feminine America." That's the comment I received this week from Tom Wood of the Twin City Sentinel, Winston-Salem, N.C. He reports that all the girls down there are gaga over Brando and "the big attraction seems to be the beast in him." Wood says he asked a girl, "would you like a guy to beat you up like that?" she almost swooned, "with a goofy smile at my question." He adds: "What the hell good is civilization if they all faint over cayman tectics?" That’s a good question, Tom. It is one that a friend of mine pondered. We’ll call him Ambrose Bomeisler. Ambrose is happily married to a sweet little girl named Agnes. At least they were happily married until Marlon Brando came along. Agnes first was infatuated with Brando in "The Men." She went raving mad for him when he played Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Names Desire." Her joy was complete with "Viva Zapata" (which my colleague Jim Bacon feels should be called "Stanley Kowalski in Mexico.") All she could talk about was Brando, and she sneered at Ambrose's timid advances. Ambrose was alarmed. His happy home was in jocapardy. He devised a plan. Ambrose went to see the three Brando pictures. He saw them again and again. He practiced his plan. "Come to dinner," Agnes called in booth evening. When Ambrose canble, she stared at wearing a sweaty pearce and a shredded alouched with hair can in his hand. "You can't come like that!" Agnes soiled "Weosez lcn comdhe snarled, scratchin' "Speak up! I can a word you're saying "You hear me! I icn comda table likied, scratching his ba "Ambrose, what h you? Have you gong "Crazy! "Come to dinner, Ambrose," Agnes called in bored tones one evening. When Ambrose came to the table, she stared at him. He was wearing a sweaty pair of dungarees and a shredded T-shirt. He alouched with hair awry, a beer can in his hand. "You can't come to the table like that!" Agnes scolded. "Woosez icn comda table likis?" he snarled, scratching his stomach. "Speak up! I can't understand a word you're saying." "You hear me! I said, "Woosez icn comda table likis?" he growled, scratching his bare foot. "Ambrose, what has come over you? Have you gone crazy?" "Crazy! Who you calling crazy?" he snapped, scratching. "I'm your husband. Right now I wanna kiss." He grabbed her fiercely and planted a kiss on her lips. "Ambrose, let me go? The broccoli is getting cold!" "Broccoli! I'll show you what I tink a broccoli!" He picked up the dish and threw it, broccoli and all, out the window. The window was closed at the time. Agnes grabbed the pitcher of ice water and poured it over Ambrose's head. "That's just about enough," she said, and Ambrose agreed. The incident managed to break Brando's hold on Agnes. But now Ambrose has other troubles. Agnes has discovered Johnny Ray. AGMES grabbed the pitcher of ice water and poured it over Ambrose's head. "That's just about enough," she said, and Ambrose agreed. The incident managed to break Brando's hold on Agnes. But now Ambrose has other troubles. Agnes has discovered Johnny Ray. She plays Johnny Ray records on the phonograph all day. She just sits there and cries.
