The ministers started their three-day talks at the headquarters of the Organization of European Economic Cooperation (OEEC), near the Palais de Château, where another group of ministers from 16 countries is dealing a "green pool" aimed at giving Europe more and cheaper products. The main items on the agenda of the OEEC ministers were: 1. How to raise by 25 per cent in the next five years Euro productivity in six basic fields: coal, steel, agriculture, electric manpower and housing. 2. Suggested reforms and further organization of the European Union (EPU), whose operational mandate is due to end June. 3. A proposed managing board of senior trade officials to study the problem of increased liberalization of European trade and draw up a new "common list" products which all member countries agree to free from quotas. The 25 per cent five-year expansion program was agreed on principle by a declaration of ministers last Aug. 29. This time they are studying how to put into operation. Mrs. E. J. Powers will be in charge of volunteers stationed throughout the shopping area to present the lilies to shoppers and to give them an opportunity to contribute to the third annual drive in this county. The lilies, which were made by handicapped workers and which are symbolic of the hope of crippled children, are designed for wearing in the lapel. "It is a privilege for our local group to help crippled children through this project," Mrs. Powers said. "We hope that every shopper will pause when he sees one of our volunteers and accept a lily and make whatever gift he chooses to the Easter Seal fund." The lilies are being used in addition to the letters containing Easter Seals which have been mailed to most homes in the city. The Easter Seal campaign, which opened March 13, will continue through Easter Sunday. Call New Witness In Commie Trial LOS ANGELES (P)—The government calls a new witness today in the conspiracy trial of 15 California communist party leaders. The trial was adjourned yesterday after Stephen A. Wereb, 55, collapsed from a heart attack during intensive cross examination. Wereb, a typewriter repairman who joined the party to act as an FBI informer, suddenly slumped forward. He was helped to a nearby office where he suffered another collapse. He said later he has had heart trouble for more than five years. U.S. Judge William C. Mathes excused Wereb from further appearances until he is sufficiently well. Judge Tackles Black Sheep Brother Case NEW YORK (UP)—Did one loyal brother go to prison to help his "black sheep" brother? That is the question Federal Judge Henry W. Goddard must decide after hearing this story yesterday from attorney Benjamin Schmier. Anthony Pisciotta, 28, was "the black sheep of the family. He was always looking for an easy way to make an easy dollar." But his brother, Rosario, 32, led "an exemplary life." One day, Anthony asked Rosario to deliver a package. His easy-going brother took the package—and was arrested. It contained narcotics. Anthony also was arrested—and for him it wasn't the first time. When Rosario shouted his innocence, the U.S. attorney said the maximum sentence would be imposed if the case went to trial. Anthony urged his brother to plead guilty so that Anthony, who has a record, wouldn't get too stiff a sentence. A lawyer told Rosario the judge probably would give him six months at the most. So both brothers pleaded guilty to peddling narcotics. Anthony got nine years. Rosario got seven years. They went to prison a year ago. Rosario wrote Judge from prison, saying he cent. The case was tried to the Legal Aid so Schmier was assigned. "I received a letter thony," Schmier told "and, believe me, it was in blood. He said his bothered him so much for sleep nights and he brother was innocent." After hearing the stop Goddard ordered Rosario a plea of innocence, brother proves his case be a free man. Said the judge: "All I want to see is tice is done." LINNELL REP.CANDIDATE CONGRESS-28th Newport Beach po Human Race Dependent on Test Tube? NEW YORK UP—The day may be coming when human beings will be made to order with test tubes and women who are not their mothers. This prediction was made today by Dr. Ralph W. Gerard, professor of physiology, University of Chicago, at a "conference on the future" held by executives of Mutual Fire and Casualty Insurance companies. The new breeding method already is used on animals. Selected human parents, doing the same, would give their eggs and sperm to a scientific laboratory. There, conception would take place in a test tube. The fertilized egg would be planted in a foster mother and, according to the facts already discovered with animals, the child would truly inherit the qualities of its test tube parents. The first human step already has been taken in artificial insemination. But Dr. Gerard predicted it would be a long time before we have any made-to-order humans. He said we may not want to, because they will be monotonously alike. Or they may create castes. He predicted new hearts, by transplantation, and new kidneys similarly. He said the secret of aging would be discovered and used for man's benefit. Our present crude calculating machines, he said, will become truly brainlike and of great as follows: LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. In this world of tomorrow, said Dr. Louis N. Ridenour, Los Angeles physicist, machines with electronic directors will replace clerks. Human routine work will be done by machines. He is a well-known atomite scientist and he predicted that in five years there would probably be enough A-bombs to destroy all the world. Ten thousand exploded anywhere in the world, he said, would cause death everywhere by insidious radioactive poison dust. years. They went to prison about a year ago. Rosario wrote Judge Goddard from prison, saying he was innocent. The case was turned over to the Legal Aid society and Schmier was assigned. "I received a letter from Anthony," Schmier told the Judge, "and believe me, it was written in blood. He said his conscience bothered him so much he couldn't sleep nights and he swore his brother was innocent." After hearing the story, Judge Goddard ordered Rosario to enter a plea of innocent. If the brother proves his case, he will be a free man. Said the judge: "All I want to see is that justice is done." LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. Anaheim Gazette March 27, 1952.)
