Principal & District Superintendent Paul H. Demaree announced this week. These awards are the first phase of the statewide program in which the Bank of America annually presents $32,000 in cash, and some 5000 trophies and certificates. The awards are made to high school seniors for achievement in scholarship, leadership and promise of future success and service to society. Each participating school names top students in specific subjects, who receive certificates of achievement. From these winners the school then selects winners in broader fields of study, who receive engraved cups. Cup winners compete with other schools on April 24, before judging panels made up of civic leaders, to determine zone winners. All zone winners will receive cash awards ranging from $50 to $1000. How much each student receives is decided by a final board of judges on May 23, when the students are interviewed at final ceremonies in Los Angeles. *Cup Winners* Winners in the local school are: Jim Holve, Science and Mathematics; Philip Taylor, Fine Arts; Iria Webber, Liberal Arts; LaVern Stanley, Vocational Arts. In instances where the society's program dogs not fit the child's needs, he is referred to the proper agency. The Orange County Easter Seal agency was organized a little more than two years ago, and for the past year and a half has operated a therapy and recreation center. The present center is located in Santa Ana at 1008 Logan st. Occupational therapy, Mrs. Chichester pointed out, is any activity prescribed for its remedial value by a physician and carried out by a registered occupational therapist. Its purpose is to hasten the recovery and rehabilitation of handicapped patients. "Our goal is to help each patient become as self-sufficient as possible. We provide training in self-help—eating, dressing and walking—coordination and muscle reeducation, as well as prevocational exploration, crafts and recreation," she added.
