Question Arises Over National Guard in U.S.
WASHINGTON (UP)—The commitment of a second National Guard Division to the Korean front for battle experience raised the question yesterday of whether similar policy might be followed for some of five other guard or regular army outfits in the United States:
Over the weekend, the Far East command in Tokyo announced that elements of the 40th National Guard division of California are in action. The 45th of Oklahoma went into the line several weeks ago.
Both divisions had been in Japan since last spring on occupation and training duty. The 48th relieved the regular army's First Cavalry Division, one of the first units to engage the enemy in the Korean war. The 1st Cavalry has returned to Japan.
In light of this precedent and in view of the point made in three negotiations about an agreement against no enlarging forces, it seemed probable the 46th is to replace one of the regular divisions in action.
While the troop rotation program had some part in the decision to send guard units as replacement for regular Army outfits in Korea, the major reason obviously is to give divisions actual combat experience.
In the United States now are three regular army divisions with no combat experience since World War II. Most of them are new to military service; they have not participated in any previous battles before outbreaks like rean war.

Assistant Engineer Hired by City
Alfred McDahiel, 27, has been hired by the city of Anaheim to assist City Engineer George Hollykite. It was announced this morning.
McDaniel is a graduate of USC and came to Anaheim from Salinas, Calif., where he was assistant city engineer. Before that he worked in the engineering department of the city of Los Angeles.
Howard Stanton Daughter Born
A baby girl weighing 9 pounds 5 ounces, was born Jan. 10, 1962, to Mrs. Olora Emily Stanton, wife of Howard M. Stanton, chief engineerman, USN, at the U.S. Naval hospital, Portsmouth, Va.
Stanton who is stationed at the Naval Operating Base, Norfolk, Va., is the son of Mrs. Ella Stanton of ST Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Stunton is from Anahelm, Calif.
The baby named Sandra Denise, is the fourth child for the Stanton's.
The state of Illinois has produced more than three billion tons of coal since 1800.
War II: Most of their personnel are new to military service. They are the 62nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg, N.C., the first Armored at Fort Wood, Tex., and the 11th Airborne at Ft. Campbell, Ky.The latter division returned from Japanese occupation duty a few months before outbreak of Korean war.
