Anaheim Gazette FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 1952 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA. Anaheim Churches to Hold Youth Day Services Sunday Sunday will be observed as Youth Day in most of the churches of Anaheim, in connection with the nationwide celebration of Youth Week. The week will be climaxed next Sunday, Feb. 3, when all of the youth groups of all the churches in the community throughout America will join together for a united service called "The Call" to united Christian youth action. The week begins Sunday with young people in charge of the regular morning worship services in several of the local churches. At St. Michael's Episcopal church, John Phelps will serve as acoylie; Weston Warwick will be lay reader for the morning worship; Frank Stoufer and Ronnie Snowden will usher; Patricia Dear and Ann Allen will serve as the altar committee; and Peggy Kohlenberger will be organist. A combined youth choir from all churches will be directed by Winifred Sloop. Christian Science God is Truth which destroys evil, guides in right paths, frees governs and heals, points out the Lesson-Sermon on "Truth" in all Christian Science churches Sunday. The Golden Text from John (8:31,32) reads, "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him. If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It is related in a Bible passage from Matthew (15:30,31), "Great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: ... and they glorified the God of Israel." A YEAR AGO TODAY—UNforces opened a surprise offensive by capturing the city of Suwon with tank-led troops... The deferments of 2,863,000 war veterans was ordered by Congress... Two men—Raymond Hubaugh, 35, and John P. Sullivan, 50—lost their lives in a Seal Beach traffic accident... $6-million sewer bids were awarded and Nat Neff was named resident engineer of the Magnolia project... Charles Pearson was honored for his service to the California League of Cities... Jack Miller made a hit with his TV communist exposé. He was swamped with 367 cards and 80-odd fan mail letters... Walter Schmid returned from a European holiday... License collector Bob Long warned Anaheimers: "Pay it now or pay double later!"... R. J. Rossberg, the telephone man, reported that Anaheimers make in the neighborhood of 30,-366 phone calls daily. That isn't cheap talk... AND TODAY — David Aaron, the Buena Park lawyer, who testified before the House Un-American activities committee, was given a vote of confidence by his fellow employees at the Nutrilite Corp. C. F. Rehnborg, president of the food supplement concern, is quoted in this article. White Temple Methodist For the final speaker in their January series on "Latin America," White Temple Methodist church is presenting Mr. Edwin T. Bower of Callao, Peru, at their regular 7 o'clock evening service on Sunday night, answering the question, "Why send Protestant missionaries to the Catholic nations of Latin America?" Mr. Bower, though a young man, has spent several years teaching in the mission high school at Callao, and from an educator's standpoint will present the problems of the Latin American peoples which Protestant educational institutions are helping to solve. The final session of the study classes for adults and youth of the School of Missions on this theme will meet following the evening service. Next Friday night, the Prospectors' Class are sponsoring a Mexican Dinner and entertainment, to climax the "south of the border" theme. Ladies of the local Mexican Methodist church will cook the dinner. The public is invited. All proceeds will go to further the work of this local Protestant program among the Mexican people. At the 10:50 a.m., Sunday morning service, Rev. Frank E. Butterworth will continue his series on "Common struggles of the soul" with a sermon on the theme, "When God Drives Wedges." Four of White Temple's life service will adhere then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It is related in a Bible passage from Matthew (15:30,31), "Great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them: ... and they glorified the God of Israel." Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "Jesus demonstrated the power of Christian Science to heal mortal minds and bodies. But this power was lost sight of, and must again be spiritually discerned, taught, and demonstrated according to Christ's command, with 'signs following.' Its Science must be apprehended by as many as believe on Christ and spiritually understand Truth" (p. 110) Bethel Baptist "Getting Ready For Miracles," will be the theme of Rev. Berthold Jacksteit's Sunday morning message at Bethel Baptist church. A Sacred Concert will be presented Sunday evening by the outstanding choir of the Fifteenth Street Baptist church of Los Angeles. The following is the musical program for the evening: Anthems: "Arise, Shine"—Maker "Sing, O Heavens"—Tours "Glory to God"—Bogers Male Quartet: "Behold I Show You A Mystery" —Herbert Piano Solo: "Evening Song"—Lind Soprano Solo: "Grant Me Dear Lord Deep Peace of Mind"—Stickles Anthems: "Thy Word is Like a Garden, Lord"—Dickinson "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked"—O'Hara "How Beautiful Upon the Mountains"—Harker "Great and Glorious"—Haydn "The Lord is My Shepherd"— AND TODAY — David Aaron, the Buena Park lawyer, who testified before the House Un-American activities committee, was given a vote of confidence by his fellow employees at the Nutrilite Corp. C. F. Rehnborg, president of the food supplement concern, is quoted as saying: "As far as we are concerned, the matter is a closed issue. Aaron made a mistake, admitted it and is probably a better citizen for it." Doesn't it seem strange that a brilliant lawyer should be so gullible as to fall for the communist line? Because of his vigilance and hard work for the American way of life, the Gazetteer once more wishes to praise the work of Jack Miller for his relentless one-man crusade against subversive elements. PETITIONS—Petitions are being circulated in Anaheim by public spirited Anaheimers who want something done about the Carbon Canyon creek. Something should be done about it. Something will be done, if Anaheimers demand it! NOTES — Harold (Skeets) Gregg, Anaheim's golfing baseballer, may "go out again" this spring. He's throwing a few to get in shape. New Golf Club Thief Caught Red-Shirted Because Jack McAlery, deputy sheriff, saw a bright new red shirt on a Mexican boy in the Newhope district this morning and remembered that red shirts were reported missing in a Willowick Golf club burglary several days ago, four Mexican juveniles were held in custody today on a burglary charge. McAlery casually asked the boy where he got the shirt, without getting a reply. Returning to the sheriff's office, he checked the Willowick report and found that red shirts were among the missing loot. He returned to the Newhope neighborhood and saw the same boy who was this time wearing a faded blue shirt. With his suspicions increased, McAlery took the boy to the sheriff's office for questioning with the result that four boys were rounded up and $300 worth of shirts were recovered from them.
