CALIFORNIANA — President Calvin Coolidge signed the Boulder Dam Act in 1928, providing the construction of a dam in Black Canyon of the Colorado to store 26,000,000 acre feet of water for irrigation and flood control purposes and to develop a million horsepower of electricity. Representative Ralph Swing and Senator Hiram Johnson sponsored the act. 1951—A lot of water ran under the bridge in 1951 even if it was a dry year (7.93 inches).
