Thomas Reviews Ups, Downs of '51 In Hollywood Area By BOB THOMAS HOLLYWOOD (UP) — Another troubled year in Hollywood is drawing to a close, so it's time to sit down and pick the highs and lows. Pardon the poetry, but it is Christmas season, isn't it? So I tried a different approach for getting into the annual summation of year's events in Hollywood. Here goes: Biggest news story—The Walter Wanger shooting. Second biggest and winner of long-run honors — The Fanchot Tone-Barbara Payton-Tom Neal affair: Yawn of the year—The Shelly Winters - Farley Granger "romance." Biggest industry news—Louis B. Mayer's exit from MGM. Almost the biggest industry news—Warner Brothers' offer to sell their interests, later retracted. Erightest new box office stars—Martin and Lewis, Mario Lanza. Losses of the year—Robert Walker, Fanny Brice, Maria Montez, Leon Errol. Biggest blow of the bobbysox set—Elizabeth Taylor's divorce. Biggest blow to the dowager set—Clark Gable's divorce. Freak news event of the year—A Vancouver hotel's refusal to room Bing Crosby because he looked like a bum. Runner-up—Arrest of Charles U.S. Due to Great Britain's New Proposal WASHINGTON (UP) — The old States probably will turn any new proposal by Grisha to revive the "Chiefs of Staff," the job command which shaped in World War II. There was belief in soldiers today that Prime Churchill might have this the portfolio of proposals bringing next month to with President Truman. The Pentagon holds that the combined chiefs agree highly useful in the prosession actual, global war, with ramifications, such as American command would needed to operate in a Nazi alliance. Presumably view has been passed to the president. The Combined Chiefs was created in February through agreement between Churchill and the late Roosevelt. The organization was about what its nameemed—the membership of the staff of the two nation... DO YOU KNOW YOUR OWN SOLAR SYSTEM HERE! DRAW IT! SO THAT'S THE EARTHLING WE PICKED UP!! ODD LOOKING... AND LERA WASTES SUCH TIME ON IT! THERE'D BE EFFICIENCY IF I WERE 'BRAIN' OF THIS SHIP! THIS SHIP SEEMS TO BE SETTLING LOWER IN THE WATER! IT IS, DARE! WHY, IT'S SINKING!! ...OR BEING DRAWN DOWN BY SOME POWERFUL FORCE? YOU APPEAR TO HAVE A VALID SQUANK, LANGSDALE! I'M NOT HERE TO MAKE TROUBLE, MR.BLOCK BUT JUMPING A CONTRACT JUST ISN'T CRICKET! OH, SURE — YOU GO GET HIM — I'LL HOLD THE WIRE. LOSES of the year—Robert Walker, Fanny Brice, Maria Montez, Leon Errol. Biggest blow of the bobbysox sc: Elizabeth Taylor's divorce. Biggest blow to the dowager set—Clark Gable's divorce. Freak news event of the year—A Vancouver hotel's refusal to room Bing Crosby because he looked like a bum. Runner-up—Arrest of Charles Coburn and his poker pals. Most recurrent news item—Hedy Lamarr's announcement she'll retire. Most notable homecoming—Rita Hayworth's. Worst public relations Sinatra. Best television perform Caesar and Imogene Coca. Best new TV star—Red Best musical film—"A in Paris." Best drama—"A Place Sun." Father of the year—Jamart, parent of twins. There was belief in some quarters today that Prime Minister Churchill might have this plan in the portfolio of proposals he is bringing next month to talk over with President Truman. The Pentagon holds that while the combined chiefs agency was highly useful in the prosecution of an actual, global war, with all its ramifications, such as Anglo-American command would not be needed to operate in a North Atlantic alliance. Presumably this view has been passed along to the president. The Combined Chiefs of Staff was created in February, 1942, through agreement between Mr. Churchill and the late President Roosevelt.
