MRS. BRUCE IVES spruces up her three-year-old cellophane Christmas tree which she made out of cast chicken wire, scrap poles, and white and orange bread wrappers. The tree is seven feet tall and made completely by herself, even to the star decorations which she cut out of tin. The home-made Christmas tree stands brilliantly lighted, at the front window of her home at 407 E. North st.—(Gazette photo by Robertson)

Bishop Manning Presents Diplomas to Teachers in Released-Time Program
At the seventh annual Christmas dinner of the Orange County Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, held at St. Boniface hall, yesterday, Roman Catholic Bishop Timothy Manning presented diplomas to 65 men and women of Orange county, who have successfully completed the training course for teachers of released-time classes in religion.
Over 100 teachers of Confraternity classes in Orange county were present at the dinner with their honored guests, including Monsignor John Clark, Archdiocesan director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, his assistant, Father Thomas Hayes, Mrs. Guy O'Melveny, president of the Archdiocesan Confraternity, Mrs. C. G. Haws, past president and now editor of "Confraternity Notes," and the pastors of the Catholic churches represented in the released-time program. Father Patrick Pierse, pastor of St. Boniface church welcomed the guests, and students of Marywood school, assisted by girls from Fremont Junior high school, served the dinner.
A color film was shown by Sr. Hancrietta, C.S.J., director of the Orange county group, depicting the teachers at work with their students from schools in this area, and showing other philanthropic and educational work of the organization.
After the program, benediction was given by Bishop Manning at St. Boniface church.

Hawaiian Hula Dancers-Santa Claus
Take Part in Optimist Yule Party
Anaheim Optimists and their families celebrated the holidays with a Christmas party last Thursday evening at Lum's Cafe, complete with Hawaiian hula dancers and Santa Claus in person. In an extravaganza of enchanting island music arranged to portray "Christmas in Hawaii," Val Moore's lithesome Hawaiian dancers gave a special performance before a delighted audience. Fluorescent lighting added further beauty to the scene.
Val Moore gave a commentary description of a mythical two-weeks' trip as each act was staged. Costumes were elaborately done in a Christmas motif. High head dresses in decorated Christmas trees was but one of the lovely costume changes.
Taking part in the affair were Nancy James, Betty Ulrich, Dolores Pool, Doris Rouland, Cory Stevens, Linda Stevens, Hazel Schachner, Carol Ann Dunbar, Carol Merritt, Charline Smith and Marion Stevens. Mrs. Val Moore did a special number, tossing leis upon imaginary ocean waters which were promptly caught by the youngsters present.
Dr. Clinton Patterson led the group in numerous Christmas carols while Mrs. Walt Gooden accompanied at the piano. "O Holy Night" was a solo number sung by the Optimist doctor.
Santa Claus made his appearance on schedule to the tune of "Jingle Bells." Loaded down with two packs of toys, the whiskered gent was enthusiastically received. Even the ladies of the Optimists were not forgotten. A box of personalized stationery was the gift of Leonard Schwa-

TO ROAST A FRYER
If you want to roast a frying chicken just tie its legs together and bake in a moderate oven covering it with a fat-molstened piece of cheesecloth. No need to stuff or truss it. Serve with mashed potatoes and a green or yellow vegetable.
Stretch meat loaf with a layer of savory bread stuffing before baking.
BARBECUE SAUCE
Roast a pork loin, then about an hour before it is done, baste with a savory barbecue sauce. An easy way to prepare the sauce is to use condensed tomato soup mixed with extra seasonings—onion, garlic, brown sugar, prepared mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice or vinegar, and tabasco.
