"The RETURN OF
FRANK JAMES"
GO GET THOSE TOUCHDOWNS—That could be just what
Monica football coach Jim Sutherland is saying to his great
quarterback, Sandy Lederman, who made the all-CIF s
string last year and is a sure bet to make the first team this
son, if he can lead his team to a couple of victories in the
offs which start tonight. Lederman not only throws the ball
is a dangerous runner and he has been rated by many as an
Otto Graham and with his winning coach backing him, it
looks like another Paul Brown squad.

Anaheim’s Colonist Football Squad Tackles Norsemen Tonight, 7:30 at Fullerton
Undefeated, untied and unimpressive looking Santa Monica’s high school Viking football team puts their very much impressive win-loss record of 8-0 on the line for Anaheim to try and mar tonight in Fullerton’s stadium at 7:30 in the second round of the 1951 CIF grid playoffs.

Locals Feel At Home on Indian Field
It will be the first game for Santa Monica's grid team on the Fullerton field, but for Anaheim it will seem like home, or maybe like some-week.
The field could be called the lid of CIF playoff upsets or maybe the field of upsets on both the high school and junior college level.
Back in the year 1934 the field was erected in its present location, being moved from almost the same location, but facing the opposite direction. Before the year 1934 the goal and end zones faced east and west, but a change came to the Fullerton stadium in 1934 and the field was transplanted, so now the end zones face north and south.
Several upsets have occurred on this field since 1934, but none so standing as the following events—the Fullerton Junior College national champion, Chafin and a stunning 20-19 first and CIF playoff win for Fullerton, high over undefeated San Diego last year and recently the Anaheim victory 13-7 over undefeated Fullerton high, who was working 23 straight league wins.
The Self at Home
Santa Monica really made itself at home this past year when first Colonist squad to arrive the Indian reservation was the empisonship bound Cee team. Fullerton's little papooses were defending champs, but they just no match for the Cees Santa Monica as the locals blanked.
Undefeated, untied and unimpressive looking Santa Monica's high school Viking football team puts their very much impressive win-loss record of 8-0 on the line for Anaheim to try and mar tonight in Fullerton's stadium at 7:30 in the second round of the 1951 CIF grid playoffs.
The Vikings, although they have bowled over every opponent they have run up against thus far this season, nevertheless seem just like any other high school team around the Southland this year.
They run and pass from the Tformation and with their ace quarterback, Sandy Lederman, taking over the duties of calling plays the Norsemen possess a very variegated attack, but nothing really sensational.
Roll Along Like Old Man River
They just roll along like a clear, blue-green river, showing nothing dangerous or secret, but just playing good, hard ball for the entire 48-minutes.
Anaheim, who is sporting a fair win-loss record of 6-3, will definitely be the underdog in tonight's titantic, although their record doesn't even come close to informing the reader as to their great potential.
They lost to Redlands in the season opener by a mere point, 7-6 and were edged out by Covina in the final seconds of the game to lose 12-7. Their really poor game was the second game of the year when they were basking in their good accomplishments of the previous week against Redlands. The Tigers from Ontario walloped the locals by the score 23-6.
But Anaheim has come a long ing Indians was the junior varsity coached by chief scout, Bill Hicks. His squad, led by Dean Philpott at the fullback slot, blanked the Warriors, 13-0.
Successful Season at FUHS
Yes, it truly has been a successful season on the Fullerton reservation and one knows that the year isn't over yet.
The situation is almost the same as last year at this same time. Fullerton won the league title and was scheduled to face undefeated San Diego high led by big Charles Powell.
San Diego went down to their way since their practice games. They have won five straight games, the big one over undefeated Fullerton who had won the league title for the past four straight years and who was rolling along in merry fashion until the Colonists got a hold of them. Holds Weight Edge
Samohi holds the edge in the weight averages with their line averaging out at 176 pounds per man while Anaheim's lineman average around 170 pounds. Backs for the Vikings average in at 159 while-Anaheim's four aces average 153.
Anaheim will be without the services of their regular left tackle, Glenn Kaminsky who broke his arm in the Orange game two weeks ago. As a result, the Colonists will present a different line up than the one that breezed through the league race undefeated.
Big bulldog Bob DeGroff will take over at left tackle with little Walter Gedney moving into the left guard slot. Bill Miller moves over to right tackle with Al Clayes staying at right guard.
There are no injuries on the Samohi team and they should be ready to give their all for the playoff game and a chance to advance into the semi-final round and the title of champion of the southern section of the CIF area of California.
In 1947 Santa Monica was CIF champ and although they have been winning Bay League titles quite easily since then, they just haven't been able to combine their forces at one time to reach the coveted spot. Defending champion is Compton who has won the title the last two years and is in the playoffs for the third straight year.
Game time is 7:30 tonight at life of a winner.

The situation is almost the same as last year at this same time. Fullerton won the league title and was scheduled to face undefeated San Diego high led by big Charles Powell.
San Diego went down to their first defeat of the year and the Braves went on and advanced to the CIF finals where they lost to defending champ Compton, who retained their title.
This season Santa Monica is the Sunset league's opponent and the loop sends Anaheim to uphold the honor of the league. The Vikings are undefeated, but the way Anaheim enjoys that Fullerton turf, the Vikings could go home a beat-en team.
Fullerton and for the loser be the final football game year, but for the winner, Game time is 7:30 tonight at life of a winner.
CIF Playoffs Produce Good College Men
Tonight's CIF football playoff contest will be witnessed by several hundred spectators who will be seeing more than just a football game between Santa Monica and Anaheim high schools.
Their memory will carry them back a few years and they will recall the days when present college and professional football players were competing in CIF competition.
Other high school players from Southern California have turned out through the years to be great college and pro players, but not nearly so many as have been great coming from the competition of the CIF playoffs.
Running through a list of ex-CIF players one can easily see the type of player they are as a result of their records after they got olt of high school and began to play for the many colleges throughout the nation.

Skiing Conditions In Southland Poor
LOS ANGELES (AP)—Skiing in Southern California mountains will be generally poor this weekend, the U.S. Weather Bureau reported today.
Sunny weather has left only patches of snow except at higher elevations. Towing facilities will be in operation at:
Snow Valley—zero to 12 inches; Green Valley and Big Bear—poor. Zero to eight inches; Upper Mill Creek—tow for beginners only; six inches; Mt. Waterman—fair, eight to 10 inches; Mammoth Mountain—very good. Two inches of new powder over two to four feet.
the college and pro ranks. Some of them were all-coast players while some of them made the all-American teams.
Tonight two teams will send players onto the field at Fullerton and tomorrow some of them are going to be playing for colleges and universities across the nation.
Anaheim Cees, Dees Defeat Tustin Squads
Although the atomic explosions are scheduled for Nevada's testing grounds, Dick Glover has been unleashing a little of his own atomic concoction lately, the most recent explosion coming yesterday in the Anaheim high gym where his Cee basketball team fissionized "for 51 points for their second victory in a row.
The Colonists trounced Tustin's little Cees 51-18 while the Dees were beating up on the Tiller Dee team by the score 38-11. Half time score for the Dee team was 17-2.
High point man for the Cees was Danny Salaets with eight points. Motta scored six, Herrera, six; Grover, four; Sabo, two; Allen, four and many many others who got into the scoring act.
High scoreer for the Dees was little Dickie Jepson who poited 17 points. The Cees and Dees will next play against the Whittier Cards Thursday in the Whittler gym.
CIF players one can easily see the type of player they are as a result of their records after they got out of high school and began to play for the many colleges throughout the nation.
