U.S. Plane Down in France with 36 on Board
WIESBADEN, Germany (UP) — Heavy icing and thick pea-soup clouds hampered the aerial search today for a missing U.S. Air Force flying boxcar feared down in the mountains of southeast France with 36 American military personnel aboard.
More than 60 planes, including some from U.S. air bases in England, took off at dawn to look for the big twin-engine C-82 transport which disappeared yesterday while flying 30 passengers and a crew of six from Frankfurt's main airport to the big U.S. supply base at Bordeaux.
Air Force officials said the passengers were 29 enlisted airmen and one soldier, while the crew included three officers.
The airmen were being flown to Bordeaux to organize a motor pool and the soldier was returning from a furlough in Germany.
The plane was last heard from shortly before noon yesterday, over the Moulins area of central France, 160 miles southwest of Paris. Air Force officials feared the big ship might have hit a mountain peak.

Wealthy Couple Plans to Adopt 11 Orphans
PONTIAC, Mich. (UP) — That is important first meeting between 11 orphaned brothers and sisters and a well-to-do, middle-aged Pittsburgh couple who may come their foster parents wished anxiously by both sides today.
The first face-to-face gether was scheduled at the large humble home at nearby Leonard Mich., which Murray Moore and his wife, Mary Jean, had bounced for their big family only a few weeks ago. Last Saturday the parents were killed in an auto smash that also took the lives of five beer-drinking youths in the other car.
John Donald Babb, big, bald, Pittsburgh insurance broker, his attractive wife, Jean, was among the many around the nation whose sympathies were aroused by the tragedy. Three children of their own, they immediately expressed interest adopting all 11 more children ranging in age from only two weeks to 15 years.
With only an enlarged photo graph of the 11 to go on, Babbs set out from Pittsburgh their car. They arrived here last evening but spent the next in their Pontiac hotel room out journeying to Leonard.
