maximum of basic training in shipboard procedure.
At sea the reservists will stand regular watches as men of the regular Navy stand. They will participate in routine shipboard drills such as fire drill, disaster drill and abandon ship drill.
Live Ammo Practice
When the destroyer reaches the operating and gunnery area, reservists will have practice in anti-aircraft warfare, using live ammunition in 20mm and 40mm guns with balloons as targets. They will also practice simulated fire with the 3-inch main battery. In short, reservists aboard the Weeden will go "regular Navy" in a very real sense during the two days they are stationed on the Weeden.
The ship will anchor in Santa Barbara harbor for the night, and round 1700, seventy new and salted" sailors will go ashore in their navy blues for night liberty, the hours of liberty being determined by regular Navy standards—midnight for seamen and later for rated men and officers.
By 0600 Sunday morning the ship with its crew of regulars and servists will get under way for Long Beach, scheduled to arrive the home port by late afternoon of the same day.
