Investigators Seek Status On Hotel Loan WASHINGTON (PI)—Mrs. Flo Bratten arranged today to tell her boss, Vice President Barkley, about the role she played last year in a $1,100,000 government loan to build a swank Miami Beach hotel. Barkley previously has said he wanted "to get her side of the story." This was his response when asked if he intended to keep Mrs. Bratten as a secretary. She has worked for him almost 26 years. The plump, gray-haired secretary told newsmen yesterday, after being questioned by Senate investigators, that she had not attempted to exert influence and had done nothing wrong. She said she had talked to Reconstruction Finance Corporation directors, including former chairman Harley Hise, merely to find out the status of the hotel loan application and not to urge its approval. "I've been down to the RFC hundreds of times, the same as any secretary, to make inquiries about loan applications pending before the huge government lending agency, Mrs. Bratten said. Shaver said that while the RFC approved the two loans, the terms were not satisfactory to the borrowers and the money never was advanced. Radiological Chief Says A-Bomb Test Safe for Everyone SAN FRANCISCO (n.y.) — California don't have to worry about possible effects from Las Vegas atomic explosions, the state's radiological chief says. Dr. Albert W. Bellamy, chief of the Radiological Services Division of the State Office of Civil Defense, says there won't be enough radioactivity carried into California to make any difference. But dust collection centers will sample the air to see just how much radioactive material is carried across the state line. Nineteen such stations are scattered over the state.
