Orange Coast College and San Bernardino college tangle tonight at Huntington Beach in the football game which many think will determine the championship of the Eastern Conference.
Both teams have racked up impressive records in contests thus far. Coach Clyde Williams' Indians of San Berdoo have taken four straight while Ray Rosso's Pirates have won three of four starts.
San Berdoo has taken Pomona, 13-0; San Diego, 41-14; Chaffey, 55-0 and Cal Poly, 67-0. Orange Coast has bested Santa Rosa, 13-7; Fullerton, 20-7 and Mt. San Antonio, 34-14 while losing to Oregon Tech, a four year college, 14-0.
The game looms as an offensive battle with Orange Coast's combine of quarterback Howard Miller, halfbacks John Black and Jess Smith and fullback Hal Smith. Carrying the Blue and Gray colors of San Berdoo onto the field will be ex-Pennsylvania ace, Don Meyer at quarterback and another Penn Prepster, Walt Gaffney at fullback and an all-Ohio prepster, Jerry Jeter at half with San Berdoo's hometown boy, Jack Gray, at the other half.
The game will start at 8 p.m. at the Huntington Beach high school field.
Melcher Arrested On Check Charge
Last night two Huntington Park police officers arrived in Anaheim with a petty theft warrant for the arrest of Raymond E. Melcher. They located him at the Anaheim Pool Hall on S. Los Angeles st. and placed him under arrest.
Day before yesterday, Oct. 16, Raymond Melcher attempted to pass a fictitious $25 check at the West End Alpha Beta store. The store called the Bank of America and found the man had no account there. The police were notified and found the man to have a local record in the station. His address is 300 Ellsworth, Anaheim.

SIX ARABS PERISH IN UNUSUAL TRAGEDY
TRIPOLI, Libya UP—Six Arab workmen perished here in an unusual tragedy during repairs to a dry well in mosque courtyard. Five lost their lives in attempting to reach the first who died.
Aled Ben Mohammed Skanle, 52, one of the workers, went down to inspect after explosives were set off at the bottom of the 50-foot well. When he did not come back up, another workman went down to see what had happened. A third man who was lowered came back gasping for air, reporting there were poison gases at the bottom.
While he was recovering from the gas, four others went down including two sons of the first man. None of them returned. Shortly afterward a fire brigade and a British police official arrived. Three of the bodies were recovered that day, but the gas was so bad the others were not taken out until the next day.
Mrs. Hettie Burk, 10342 S. Stanton ave., has been entertaining her daughter Sylvia from Beverly Hills and Mrs. Ruth Riddle who is moving from Costa Mesa to make her home in San Diego.
Today Mrs. Burk and Sylvia left for Oxnard where they were called because of illness in the family. Mrs. Burk will be gone 10 days.
