Dangerous Winds Bearing Down Upon Florida
MIAMI, Fla., (P)—Storm warnings flew over the Florida keys today in the face of a small but "extremely dangerous" hurricane bearing down on Cuba.
An alert was ordered for the western Bahamas, Florida straits and Miami, where the American Legion opened its 33rd National Convention.
Hurricane precautions were ordered in western Cuba, especially in Havana, Matanzas and Santa Clara provinces.
Last night the hurricane, with winds of 80 miles per hour near the center and gales extending outward 40 to 50 miles, was moving northward at about five miles per hour. It was near the Isle of Pines, some 300 miles south southwest of Miami.
The national observatory in Havana said the hurricane "appears to be headed for Cuba," and that Matanzas Province, which borders Havana Province on the east, probably would be hardest hit.
The storm is "extremely dangerous," the observatory added, because it may grow in force before crossing Cuba.
The keys, where storm warnings were ordered up last night, is a chain of coral islands extending southwestward 120 miles from extreme South Florida to Key West. The latter city lies 90 miles north of Havana.
Miami was crowded with some 30,000 Legionnaires, who opened their 33rd National Convention to Baron Leone vs Roger Mackay at OCAC Tonight
World wrestling champion, the arrogant Italian, Baron Michele Leone, tonight goes up against a vastly improved Roger Mackay, junior heavyweight title challenger in the main event of an all-star program at the Orange County Athletic club.
First match of the four-bout program, a 20-minute session between Action Alberts and Hardboiled Hardy, is to get under way at 8:30 o'clock as the club resumes its winter starting schedule.
The scramble between Mackay and Champion Leone figures to be a hectic one. The last time the pair met it took the Baron 65 minutes to maneuver Mackey into position for a pinner. Tonight's match is two out of three and limited to 60 minutes.
Carlos Guzman, one of the sensational Guzman brothers from Mexico City meets Judo Jack Terry in the scheduled two-out of three fall semi.
Don Arnold, the strong-boy from San Diego, who last week surprised fans and the Baron by holding the latter to a one-hour draw meets Dave Levin in the special. It should be one of the top scientific matches of the year at the OCAC.
NOT ITS NA!
S-SORRY GENERAL! IS NOW SMOKING FOR RIDDEN ON THE F-BLUB!?
DISMISS...GRR! EVERYBODY SMOKE CIGARS! MAJOR ENTH!

Miami was crowded with some 30,000 Legionnaires, who opened their 33rd National Convention today. There was some speculation that the mammoth Legion parade scheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m. (EST) might be postponed if the hurricane approaches.
