Teachers Welcomed By Magnolia P-TA The Magnolia P-TA introduced the teachers at their first meeting of the school year. Mrs. James Allen, vice president, presented the principals of Magnolia I and II, Miss Maude Williams and Glee Newsom, and each member of their staff with a corsage. The corsages had been made by Mrs. Richard S. Yater, chairman of the flower committee. Cub Scouts William Brooks and Bill Prewitt led the flag salute followed by Mrs. A. Raymond, teacher at Magnolia I, giving the thought for the day. Mrs. William Bushman, commissioner for the Anaheim Girl Scouts, spoke about the importance of girl scout work. Sgt. Russell Campbell from the Juvenile Bureau of Orange County narrated a film, "Dangerous Strangers." Tea was served by Mmes. Milton Taylor, H. Kirk, John Brooks, P. Bradley and J. Parsons from an attractive table dressed in a fall theme of purple grapes and leaves. Hoskins Hear Noted Speakers At Convention Louis Hoskins, Anaheim Postmaster, Mrs. Hoskins, and Monte Inskeep, postmaster of Buena Park, have returned to their homes after attending the convention of the National Association of Postmasters in Washington, D.C. They heard addresses by Presi- where Mrs. Minnie Galloway, mother of Mrs. Hoskins, joined them for the return trip. Mrs. Galloway had been visiting relatives in Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Eastwood of 7511 E. Ball rd., are on a trip to Sacramento. Marywood High School Mothers club will meet tomorrow afternoon at 1:30. All mothers are urged to attend. This is another YLI project, which everyone is asked to support as the proceeds go into the social service fund. The next initiation will be held November 5th, at which time District Deputy, Ann Hennessy of Heffernan Institute, San Diego will make her official visit. All members are urged to assist with the membership drive set for October by Rose Reid, Grand President. Candidates will be initiated under the banner of Our Lady, Queen of the Rosary. Members interested in joining the Study Club may call the chairman, Ann Miller, 6915. Delegates appointed to attend the National Council of Catholic Women Conference at the Ambassador Hotel, Los Angeles, October 16, are Bonnie Jollissaint and Elisie Benner. Others attending will be Florence Ortez and Jean Lampher. Hostesses for the social hour were Ann Miller, Chairman, Wynetta Schmidt, Alice Matejka and Irene Feeney. Phone: ANAHEIM 4204 Membership Tea Sponsored by Mothers Guild Under the sponsorship of the board of directors of the Mothers' Guild of Mater Del High School, a Membership Tea was held at the school for the purpose of acquainting the mothers of pupils attending the school, with the faculty, and inviting them to unite in the work of the Guild. The committee in charge included, Mrs. Jack Miller, Membership chairman; Mrs. Rose Heim, Hostess chairman; Mrs. Terrence Halloran, Social chairman; and Mrs. Peter Palm, Program chairman. A short meeting, held before the tea hour, was opened with a prayer by Father Eyraud, Director of the School, Mrs. Jack Miller welcomed the mothers of both returning, and new students. The Girls' Glee Club of Mater Del entertained with several numbers. An inspirational talk on teenagers, their problems in the world today, and the responsibilities of the school and the parent to their teen-agers and their problems, was given by Father Eyraud. The faculty was then introduced. A social hour and tea followed, under the supervision of Mrs. Helm, Mrs. Halloran and Mrs. Nell Murphy. The tea tables were attractively decorated with Hummel statues of the "Madonna of the Flower" and bouquets of colorful autumn flowers. Cancellations, cancellations, the senior class talent assembly scheduled for today was cancelled by Miss Louise Hitt, drama instructor, due to lack of enthusiasm of the seniors. This assembly was to be the first of a series of talent shows, and the best acts from each show were to be combined in an all-school show later on. It is hoped the juniors will be ready when their turn comes Oct. 18. Every Monday from now on until their project is finished the Girls' League has invited all Conies interested in making cartoon scrapbooks to come in the Girls' League room during lunch period and help. The first individual Y club meetings were held Tuesday with the junior and seniors meeting in the Y building. Many things coming up in the future were discussed including the election of Council officers Oct. 19. This is very important and it is most probable that a joint meeting of all girls club will be called. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were test days for freshmen this week; Iowa State Tests, we might add. These tests are given to determine what education has done for each individual student.
