Anaheim must be regarded as the oldest city in Orange county, though Mission San Juan Capistrano was reestablished Nov. 1, 1776. SURVEYOR—Who laid out the Anahelm Colony? George Hansen surveyed the tract and laid out the colony in fifty, 25-acre lots, streets, irrigation canals, etc. SANTA ANA—When was Santa Ana founded? William H. The first educational facilities were provided by the mission fathers at San Juan shortly after American Women To Stay In Germany HEIDELBERG, Germany (AP)—The U.S. Army said officially today that American women and children are remaining in Germany because their morale value "outweighs the risks involved." The estimated 45,000 dependents of U.S. occupation forces will continue to live here "unless changes in the political and military situation warrant" their removal, army headquarters said. There is a growing debate over the dangers of these women and children remaining so near the iron curtain. The risks are that they might be overrun in case of a sudden Soviet attack across Germany—or that U.S. troops might be hampered in resisting an attack because of their efforts to evacuate their families to safety. Military men acknowledged these risks. The army statement said the question "is subject to constant review by U.S. authorities in Washington and in the European command." The Army added, however: "The presence of U.S. dependents in Germany has a marked effect upon the German population, and for that matter on all peoples LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. The first public school in the county was in Anaheim. TRAVEL—How much did it cost early day Anahelmers to go to Los Angeles? According to an early historian, it cost six dollars and required two days to make a round trip to Los Angeles in the '60's. COUNTY—Is it true that an Anaheim county was considered? Anaheimers actually had representatives in Sacramento to advocate the formation of an Anaheim county in 1869-70. Financial difficulties, however, caused the failure of the move to create such a county at that time. RECORD—Has a complete history of Anaheim been written? No complete history of any part of Orange county exists today. Various authors who have been interested in history of this locality have written sketches. The best record of Anaheim since 1870 are the bound volumes of the Anaheim Gazette. RAILROAD—When was the railroad built to Anaheim? Through an agreement, the Southern Pacific built its line from Downey to Anaheim in 1873-74. A second railroad, the Santa Fe, built its line through Anaheim to San Diego in 1890, while a third railroad, the Los Angeles and Salt Lake built its line as far as Anaheim in the early 1920's. "Additionally, their presence has a marked moral and stabilizing influence upon the (Army) command." "It is considered that the advantages of retaining U.S. dependents in Germany outweigh the risks involved." Plans for quick evacuation of American non-combatants from Germany in case of war are known to have been worked out in detail. Some officers admit privately, however, that even though successful, the evacuation of so many civilians would require the use of soldiers and equipment needed in combat. She appeared at the home of Mrs. Josephine Shelly, 14402 Ball rd., Anaheim, who treated her for cuts and bruises on the face. She had been beaten when she resisted the robbery, the woman said. She later told deputy sheriffs that she knew the driver only by the name of "Jesus." She had accepted his offer of payment their families to safety. Military men acknowledged these risks.
