Anaheim YLI Initiates Seven New Members
Seven new members were accepted into the Anaheim chapter of Young Ladies Institute at a formal initiation in the 100F hall here last night. Mrs. Bonnie Jollissaint, president, and all other officers of the group participated in the ceremony. The evening's activities began with serving of potluck supper.
Highlighting the business discussion were plans for a sport dance Sept. 29, a rummage sale Oct. 4, 5 and 6, and group reception of Communion this Sunday, followed by breakfast in the home of Mrs. Agnes Zinda, 12262 Cerritos ave. Members will attend 7 a.m. Mass Sunday. Mrs. A. L. Benner is taking reservations for the breakfast.
Mrs. Leta Mae Smith is general chairman of the sport dance which will be held in Anaheim Elks club. Mrs. Don May is chairman of the rummage sale and asked members to take their discarded articles as soon as possible to the home of Mrs. Leta Smith, 619 S. Olive st., Anaheim.
Also reported on was the club's magazine drive for subscription renewals. Proceeds will be added to the club's social service fund.
Members voted to inaugurate a "secret pal" club and names will be drawn at the first meeting in October.
A promising young local musician, Charles Fassel, demonstrated his art at last night's meeting.
Installation Rites To Highlight Club's First Fall Meeting
New officers of the Marguerite Twinem club, girls' missionary group, will be installed during a get-acquainted party tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the basement of White Temple Methodist church. Mrs. Frank Butterworth will be installing chairman.
Officers who will assume their duties tomorrow are Drusetta Martin, president; Judy Belle Wicker, vice president; Glenda Smith, secretary; Cherrie Goff, treasurer; Barbara Galloway and Ann Thomason, worship chairmen; Sheryll Ann David and Linda Cheatum, calling committee chairmen.
Tomorrow's will be the initial meeting of the club year for the group of junior high and high school girls. Mrs. Paul David and Mrs. Ray Cheatum, club leaders, will serve refreshments.
Eugene Cranston Home from Oakland Naval Station
Eugene Cranston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert M. Cranston of 206 S. Rose st., who has been in Oakland for the past three months taking an intensified course in the naval reserve training program, returned to Southern California this week.
The local youth was transferred from the Los Alamitos station to Oakland to absorb in three months material that ordinarily is covered in a nine-month period. On completion of the electronics course he was reassigned to Los Alamitos where he is now classified as on a semi-active status,

Balboa Rendezvous Site for Annual Peace Officers Ball
The 26th annual Orange Peace Officers' ball will be held Oct. 5 in the Rendezvous ballroom at Balboa, according to announcement made today by Chief Thomas V. Towns of Orange police department, who is president of the policemen's association.
Frankie Carle's orchestra, currently appearing at the Coconut Grove in Los Angeles, has been engaged for the evening. Proceeds from the dance will be added to the insurance fund of the association and will be used also for other obligations for which funds are needed.
Sheriff James Muslick is co-chairman of the ball. Police Chief Mark Stephenson of Anaheim is in charge of publicity and box office receipts are charged to Chief David Hasson of Placentia.
Tickets may be obtained from any police officer in the county.

Godwin Serving With Naval Unit
Neither rain, snow, nor sleet can ground the planes of Naval Composite Squadron 35, with which Thomas W. Godwin, aviation storekeeper, third class, USN, formerly of 8082 Ball rd., Anaheim, and husband of the former Miss Beverly D. Phillips of 3128 Redwood ave., Lynwood, is serving.
The San Diego-based squadron flies in all kinds of weather, night or day. Employing radar, its pilots are trained for night heckling missions and have been especially successful in the Korean area.
Members of the squadron are required to attend constant refresher courses in gunnery tactics, instrument flying, night vision, and airborne electronics to keep them proficient in their specialties.
P-TA Board to Convene at Geo. Washington
There will be an executive board meeting for the George Washington P-TA board members Wednesday morning at 8:45 in the school auditorium. It is the first of the year.

BACK FROM VACATION
Mr. Harvey Koss, of Orange ave., Anaheim, has returned from a month's vacation with his brother Perry Kola, of Bakersfield. Going by train to Detroit, his brother took delivery of a new car. They crossed over Lake Michigan to Wisconsin where they visited relatives at Jefferson, Wis., their birthplace, and elsewhere. They returned by way of Omaha, Nebr., and Salt Lake City, Utah, arriving here Saturday night.

During his stay in the northern city Cranston, a model train enthusiast and secretary of the Anaheim model railroad society, attended a live steam national convention sponsored by the Golden Gate Live Steam club.
Since returning to Anaheim he is enrolled at Fullerton Junior college to continue his studies in electronics.
Crescendo Club Fetes Couple in Re-decorated Home
Members of the Crescendo club of White Temple Methodist church arrived en masse at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Harlow, 306 E. Broadway, Anaheim, for a surprise party Friday evening. The occasion was the completion of re-decoration of the interior of the Harlow home.
President Don Bown of the club expressed the sentiments of the group toward the Harlows when he presented them with a table lamp, which he said was given in appreciation of their hospitality and for their many past kindnesses to the group.
The informal evening social concluded with serving of home-made ice cream and cookies.
Guests were Miss Dorothy Hartlaw, the couple's daughter, and Mrs. Ralph Osborn, Mr. and Mrs. Dutz Hilbers, Mr. and Mrs. Don Bown, Mr. and Mrs. Avon Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Knox, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lindsay, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sauer, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fackiner, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Whitfield and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Damerell.

Supper Sept. 25
The semi-annual penny supper of Lola Rebekah lodge will be served next Tuesday in Anaheim Odd Fellows hall, Mrs. Barbara Myers, secretary, announced today.
Food for the supper, traditionally well-patronized by Anaheim residents who like lots of variety in their home cooking, will be served buffet style. Although the name originated back in the days when servings sold at a cent each, the secretary ruefully acknowledged that inflation inevitably has raised the price, but hasn't changed the quality of the food.
