KITCHEN VIEW—Flower arrangement is one of Mrs. Schoepe's hobbies and she enjoys arranging them in her lovely kitchen. Picture window in the background (to the east) is tinted to cut down glare. The vista it offers of rolling hills and sometimes-snowcapped mountains is always an inspiration. From the west side of the kitchen the view carries across the lawn, through the flower garden, and on to the ocean. Building Booms In County Areas Unincorporated territory of Orange county had another big week in building, according to county building department records which show permit valuations to talling $419,738 for the week past, the bulk representing new homes. The gorgeous hilltop home which commands a sweeping view of the valleys on all four sides bids fair to become one of the show places of Orange county. Incorporating some 3000 square feet and following the contour of the hillside for its graceful proportions the dwelling has every convenience and the most modern building materials have been used in its construction. Mr. and Mrs. Schoepe took their plans to home designer Charles Wickett, and eight months after the plans were completed the beautiful house was finished. C.R. Young and Sons, of Anaheim, were the building contractors. Designed for Living The kitchen has been purposely placed in the center of the house because it was intended to be the center of household activity for the home-maker. A breakfast room separates the living-dining room from it on one side, while two bedrooms and a den occupy a wing on the opposite side. Each room has a separate entrance from out of doors, and each has a generous area of plate glass through which the gorgeous surrounding panoramic views can be glimpsed. An intricate electrical system provides concealed fluorescent cove lighting above the windows and a series of recessed ceiling lights throughout the house. Of special interest is the intercommunication system with stations located in the strategic spots, and the radio speaker in each room that is controlled from a built-in radio-phonograph combination installed next to the television in the living room. Another modern note is furnished by the method of operating the overhead garage door. The master bedroom's functional furniture is built in place and its avodire paneling, a branch of the mahogany family native to South America, gives it special beauty. The framework around the avodire paneling of closet doors and dressing table is walnut. The doors are trimmed with clear lucite handles.
