be $200 less than it was in 1950."
Louis H. Hoskins, who was chairman of the budget committee, commended committee members for the conscientious way in which they studied budget requests submitted by the various agencies. The committee pared budget requests from a total of $26,108.10, to the $22,300 figure.
Because of the uncertain conditions of the war, no appropriation was made for the United Defense Fund. The Board of Directors approved the committee's suggestion that in the event defense activities require a service program, Anaheim would re-activate its USO and measures for local support would be taken when needed.

STRONGER THAN YOU THINK
It is difficult to believe the watch one wears on his wrist is tougher to wear out than a motive. But the Jewelry Industry Council says it is. We are that in the course of a year, locomotive's wheels made as many revolutions as does your waist balance wheel, then in that the locomotive would have tiled nearly 28 times around earth at the equator. At the ish of that run, with your wrist ticking merrily away, locomotive would have been completely worn out. Small work then, that your watch should not an expert inspect it at least a year.

British Announce Long Distance Jet Flight Solution
LONDON (UK)—British scientists have cracked one of the toughest problems of jet aviation—long distance flying without refueling, the Daily Graphic said today.
The newspaper said this achievement will soon be demonstrated by a 12,000-mile non-stop jet flight from Britain to Australia.
The secret is contained in what the Graphic described as a "super two-in-one engine — the Napier Nomad. This engine, it said, develops up to 6000 horsepower but uses no more fuel than the conventional piston and jet engines of much lower rating.

When Mrs. Rice received the White House offer yesterday she immediately accepted "with deepest gratitude" and said:
"This is about the most wonderful thing that could ever happen."
Later, Clem A. Evans, Sioux City councilman, delivered a verbal apology at the request of J. M. Gunnell, secretary-treasurer of the cemetery which halted her husband's burial just as the basket was to be lowered.
Gunnell said the cemetery learned belatedly that Rice was an Indian and the action was taken regretfully because of legal complications. The cemetery's policy is to bury only members of the caucasian race.
