Anaheim Gazette WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 1951 KRAEMIR, CALIFORNIA Mail Bag To the Editor: I read your article concerning drunken driving and the publication of same. I have had someone very clear to me arrested for driving while drunk, but he was able to have it kept out of the paper thus causing him very little embarrassment. I feel that had he been treated more like a menace to society, he would not be driving under the same condition occasionally today. I feel that the only one that suffers from an arrest of this kind is the wife and children. They must pay the fine (doing without many things) that are vital to normal existence) or have their husband or father put in jail causing more debts to pile up and no provider for them. In these ways they must endure the hardships while he is even spared the embarrassment of having his name in print. I do believe it would be better to publish all arrests whether rich or poor, regardless of how many arrests it is for the person. I also feel if it could be arranged to have the person arrested to go ahead and work off his sentence on weekends doing outside labor, this way it is possible for the person to go on providing for his family and also using up the time he spends on bar stools over the week-end. If the arrested person did not keep his side of the bargain, I would keep adding weeks to the time when his license would be return-ed to him.
