Follow not that which is evil, but that which is good.

BUENA PARK, August 7—Has little Patty Jean Hull died in vain?
Will other innocent little girls be subjected to the same cruel torture, because Justice is blind?
Something is wrong with the due process of law when a jury is willing to let a man that his own mother says should be "put away" off with "a mere pat on the wrist."
The public cannot ignore this travesty of justice. Without proper law enforcement civilization is doomed.
PATTY HULL was lured from a movie near her home and died in the motel cabin of Henry Ford McCracken. She was killed by 15 blows, according to medical testimony.
McCracken has a record of sex offenses against little girls.
He admitted taking the girl to his cabin.
He even admitted taking the child's body to a lonely canyon and burying it.
McCracken readily admitted the incidents to which there were anticipated Service Counts in State Civil Service Excuse for veterans—preference for civil service—may be "amended" by some persons who on active military duty, add to Ben Liebermann, Orange City Service Officer.

McCracken has a record of sex offenses against little girls... He admitted taking the girl to his cabin... He even admitted taking the child's body to a lonely canyon and burying it... McCracken readily admitted the incidents to which there were witnesses and unrefutable evidence. His borrowed car was seen parked not far from the lonely canyon grave he admits he dug for the little girl... A yellow bedspread from his motel cabin was found nearby...
PATTY HULL died behind the locked doors of that motel cabin, but some of the jurors gave credence to McCracken's wierd hallucinations instead of weighing the scientific evidence.
Several jurors were evidently swayed by the cheap, insidious sinuations of his counsel. None of these damnable "weasel words" were corroborated by evidence or testimony.
Several of the jurors did not find the evidence strong enough to justify voting for a murder conviction. One juror refused to vote at all in violation of his oath.
FAILURE of society to exact punishment in such ghastly crimes against innocent little children will only encourage other deviates to satiate their morbid desires

Anticipated Service Counts in State's Civil Service Exams
One type of California benefit for veterans—preference in State civil service—may be "anticipated" by some persons while still active military duty, according to Ben Liebermann, Orange County Service Officer.
State law provides that a member of the Armed Forces who makes a State civil service examination, passes it, and is placed on an eligible list, may have his veteran's preferential credits added to his score if he achieves veteran status before too long a period has elapsed.

GREENHOUHE WHISTLE—14... Greenhouse Whistle Blast Puts Traffic In 'Tizzy' ...
The Amling greenhouse whistle coming from a point close to the Pacific Electric crossing on W. Fifth st., Santa Ana, throws traffic in a tizzy, because it sounds like an approaching train, according to a complaint to Santa Ana city council last night.
A Garden Grove woman asked the council to do something about the whistle, which she said so startled her husband, while they were about to cross the P.E. tracks that he lost control of the car. The car struck a pole and he was injured, she said.
She claimed that other similar incidents have occurred and someone may be killed because of the sudden startling blast of the whistle.
The council referred a copy of her letter to the Amling firm, with request for co-operation, and a reply.
Rocket Soars 130 Miles Up to New Altitude Record
WHITE SANDS, N. M., CP—A new record of more than 130 miles in altitude was set today by an American built Viking rocket.
Soaring higher than any single stage missile, the five-ton Viking No. 7 stayed in the air 10 minutes. At the peak, it made an estimated speed of 5,600 miles an hour—just under 1,000 miles a second.
The rocket was touched off at 11 a.m. (PDT). All clear was sounded 12 minutes later—perhaps a minute after rolling thunder told the rocket had landed.
The rocket hit the earth about 41 miles north of the launching platform, the Navy announced.
The highest a single rocket has gone previously was 114 Dec. 17, 1946.

10 Cent Juke Box Ruled as Illegal
Music hath charms, but not sufficient to justify a 100 per cent price boost on juke boxes.
Such was the ruling this week by the Office of Price Stabilization, whose district counsel warned San Diego, Orange and Imperial county tavern owners that most 10-cent music charges are illegal.
The specific violation is in cases where jukebox owners have raised prices from 5 to 10 cents since the government's base price freeze period, last Dec. 19-Jan. 25.
Failure to restore the 5-cent charge will result in OPS action against both the jukebox companies and taverns leasing the machines, it was asserted.

Price Boost on Pork Official
Higher ceiling prices for pork, which will cause a rise of 3 to 4 cents, a pound in the cost of pork roasts and chops at the retail level, have been set by the Office of Price Stabilization, according to William C. Moeser, director of the San Diego District Office of Price Stabilization.
The increases were allowed, Moeser said, to meet the increased costs to processors of live hogs since last January. The higher ceiling prices affect pork loins weighing 16 pounds or less. The new prices are in place of prices frozen at seasonally low levels by the General Ceiling Price Regulation issued last January, Moeser said.
