For Results and Quick Anaheim Gazette MONDAY, AUGUST 6, 1951 ANNOUNCEMENTS City Recreation Department Plans Full Calendar for Coming Months The Anaheim Recreation department is moving along at high speed to make August the best month of all for special activities. This month will bring fun and enjoyment to over 500 Anaheim youngsters. The month's activities opened with the Annual Doll show presented by the Anaheim Recreation department and the Anaheim Doll club, yesterday. August 6, will mark the Talent Night where youngsters from 6 to 60 will show to the townspeople skill in dancing, singing, playing of many instruments and making you laugh. The evening's festivities will begin promptly at 8, with a community sing. This is the chance for all to sing as loud as possible with no neighborly interference. The songs of yesterday will be the songs of today. August 8, the ping pong tournament will end. Medals will be awarded to the first place winners of the upper division boys, lower division boys, and the girls division. Ribbons will be given to all City park. August 20, is the annual checker tournament. This tournament will have three divisions for boys and girls. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the winners. To enter the competition you must sign up at the City park. These tournaments are only opened to youngsters from 8-15. August 30 and $1 the Craft and Hobby show will wind up the summer's schedule of special activities. This will be a two day event open to the entire public. Sign up at the Coast-to-Coast TV Hookup Goes Into Operation Sept. 30 NEW YORK (P) — The long awaited coast-to-coast television network hookup is expected to go into operation Sept. 30, the American Telephone and Telegraph Co. said today. The big network companies already have announced plans for putting some of their top shows on from Hollywood when the link is completed. It will also permit television viewers on the Pacific coast to see the World Series and those in the eastern half of the country to see the Rose Bowl football game. The basic link will be by way of A. T. and T.'s relay system between New York and San Francisco, previously in operation as far as Omaha. Los Angeles and San Francisco already are connected by a microwave system consisting of towers averaging 30 miles apart, which relay sharply focused radio beams from horizon to horizon.
