Anaheim Faces Hemet in Local Legion Tourney First round pairings were selected for the Annual Junior Legion Baseball Tournament which will start Sunday afternoon at La Palma park, in the Legion hall last night before some 200 fans and friends. Fourteen teams were seeded in the tournament and among them was the local Anaheim team, picked as a result of their second place finish in the Orange County standings. Anaheim tied with Orange with a 8-4 record, but Orange was not accorded a seeded position. Anaheim defeated Orange in two straight games to tie for second place. Other seeded teams entered in the tourney were Fullerton, American Latin, Hollywood, South Gate, Burbank, El Serreno, Upland, North Hollywood, Sawtelle, Maywood, Santa Maria, Merchant Marine and Crenshaw. Playing dates were not selected last night, but will be determined in the next few days. Anaheim Knoeller Slams Homer for 5-2 Win Alex Tamale slid by Cypress VFW 5 to 2 last night in the second game at the City park. In the first inning Tamale won the game with four runs on a single by Sam Morales and Bob Morales, then Bill Metcalf loaded the bases with a fielder's choice in which everyone was safe and Lee Knocler hit a home run. In the fourth they added one run on a single by Willie Morales and a double by Bob Morales. Cypress scored their two runs in the second on a single by W. John, a walk and a single by Norman Bradbury. Morales, 2b 1 1 Jensen, Mapes Dropped from Yankee Square NEW YORK UP—The New York Yankees today optioned a fieldier Jackie Jensen to the Kansas City Blues of the American Association and sold out Cliff Mapes to the St. Louis Browns on waivers. The Yankees also called up Cerv, an outfielder, and Bob Wiler, a southpaw pitcher. Cerv who is batting .349, leads American Association in triple home runs and runs batted Wiesler, a southpaw, has registered 142 strikeouts. The Browns also sent four pitchers to the Kansas City club of the contenders for the Association pennant. Infielder Tom Upton and pitcher Lou Sleater went to the Blue option but pitcher Bob Hogue infielder Kermit Wahl were to the minor league club outfield. There are only four teams in the Riverside County League and already Anaheim has defeated the first and second place teams, Norco and Corona and as a result will be favored to advance into the second round against either Van Nuys or seeded Hollywood. Other county teams in action will be Orange against the Merchant Marine, Santa Ana vs East Pasadena, Huntington Beach vs Pasadena, and Fullerton against Altadena. All entries are not in yet. Roaring Rainbows Fall to Cypress The Roarding Rainbows suffered their third league defeat against three wins to end the first half of play, at La Palma park last night. Cypress had two big innings, one in the first when they scored five runs on six walks and an error. In the fifth they scored eight runs on seven walks, three errors and two singles. Anaheim got three hits with Dennis Fitzpatrick getting two. Fullerton was tied for first with Anaheim going into the game. Paul Grover scored the winning run for his own cause after he doubled in the second inning and scored on a single by Kenny Harker. Fullerton only threatened in the seventh, when Avitia the first man up tripled to deep center, but was picked off of third by Bill French. Later another man singled and Avitia would have been the tying run. Barry Ryan Wins Singles Title in Tennis Tourney Barry Ryan yesterday won the undisputed title in the round robin boys' singles tennis tournament which had been hanging fire awaiting the return of Don Dawson from a vacation trip, when he defeated Dawson in a decisive 6-0 set. This gives Barry the number one seeding in the elimination singles matches which got under way on Monday, with Don getting the number two seeding. With most of the seeded players drawing first round byes, opening matches ran quite true to form. Jack Trott defeated John Kohlenberger in one of the most tightly contested matches 6-4. Jay Lillywhite took a love set decision from Ronnie Swank, as did David Evans over Harlan Heinrick. In the girls' singles Virginia Lee defeated Arvilla Legg 6-3, while Anne Williams was beating Sharon Rodin in a love set. In second round events today pairings were as follows: Karen Lenain vs Charlene Allen with the winner to play Kaye Coffee, Carol Swank vs Virginia Lee, Rita Flynn vs Vicky Schneider with the winner playing Jean Williams, Mary Rasmussen vs Margaret Rodin, the winner to play Anne Williams, Barry Ryan vs Gene Newkirk, Lynn Oden vs Joe Goodner, Gary Schilling vs Merle Meyer, Done Lee vs Jack Trott, Terry Hunt vs Dennis Fitzpatrick, Don Dawson vs Jay Lillywhite, Lee Risner vs David Evans, and Don Kohlenberger vs Don Haslall. Fisherman Drowns After Dory Upsets Search was being made today for the body of Richard "Red" Brown, 34, ex-taxi driver of Huntington Beach, who was drowned about two miles off Huntington Beach in a fishing accident. Brown was on the Super-Express boat near an off-shore barge when he hooked a large fish. He boarded a dory to follow the fish and was drowned when the dory upset. Costa Mesa Cafe Fire Loss $1000 Fire originating in the kitchen of the Gingham cafe, 1788 Newport blvd., Costa Mesa, caused $1000 damage at 2:15 a.m. today. Costa Mesa firemen controlled the blaze before it spread to the rest of the cafe, although there was some smoke damage in the main part of the establishment. Owner Mickey Bertone said that the fire started from overheated grease in a deep fire container.
