6 Anaheim Gazette MONDAY, JULY 23, 1951 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA COURT FASHIONS — Gloria Butler (left) and Mrs. Barbara Schofield-Davidson, attired in latest tennis fashions, chat on court during Kent tennis championships, Beckenham, England. Anaheim Soldier Member of Woodwind Quintet Playing for Japanese People Anaheim Airborne Ranger Gives Up Batter for Battle With the U. S. Second Infantry Division, Korea—Sgt. William B. Glaskox, 21, a member of the 1st SENDAI, Japan—Three months ago, five members of the 40th Infantry Division band, one an Anaheim soldier, got together because they had "music written for a woodwind quintet, instruments and musicians." This week, with two sell-out concerts and a series of radio broadcasts behind them, the woods Hal Boyle By SAUL PETT For Hal Boyle NEW YORK (UP)—After a day at the office, Frank Schoonmaker comes home tired from drinking, but not drunk. In some quarters this may be regarded as thoughtless wastage of the perfect alibi, since Schoonmaker is a professional wine taster. But in work hours, he says, he can't afford to swallow the stuff. He tastes and then spits it out. "In one day," he reports, "may taste as many as 100 different wines. If I swallowed I'd be plastered before lunch." Schoonmaker, a wine importer and author of books on wines (latest: "A Dictionary of Wine"), says tasting wine professionals isn't much fun. On a tasting day, Schoonmaker doesn't smoke or eat any high-flavored foods which would cause the edge of his taste buds. Each taste involves about a tablespoon of wine and requires about ten minutes for tasting, analyzing and making notes. First, Schoonmaker examines the color. He can tell a chemically colored wine from a naturally colored one just by a glance. If the color is off, he won't even smell it, much less taste it. Next, he smells the wine and grades the bouquet. He does this by swishing it around in the glass. The more the inside of the glass is coated with the stuff, the greener it is. Quintet Playing for Japanese People Anaheim Airborne Ranger Gives Up Batter for Battle With the U.S. Second Infantry Division, Korea—Sgt. William B. Glaskox, 21, a member of the 1st Airborne Ranger Company attached to the Second Division, has given up cooking and is now a fighting machine gunner. His father, William H. Glaskox, lives at Box 10702 S. Nutwood Ace., Anaheim. When Glaskox came to Korea with the Rangers last December, he was a first cook. In May he wanted to see action, and was made an automatic rifleman. Fifteen days later the Chinese launched their second phase spring offensive, now known as the "May Massacre." During the fight Glaskox captured 25 clips (20 rounds per clip) in three hours. Accordingly this buddies, Glaskox and other soldier killed a score of Reals who were taking 25 UN soldiers prisoners. One thing that caused Glaskox's job switch was the time at Chipyong when he was baking cakes, and an artillery barrage flattened all of them. Before joining the Rangers, he was with the 11th Airborne Division, and spent two years occupation duty in Japan. Dock D. Stall Suffers Fatal Heart Attack Dock D. Stall, 71, unmarried, well-known Anaheim resident, who lived at 1523 E. Santa Ana st., wah found dead in his garage at 7:15 a.m. yesterday. He had apparently suffered a heart attack when he went to the garage to put gasoline in his tractor. He was found by a neighbor, Andrew Paysen. He leaves a sister, Mrs. Emmie Ritchey as his sole relative, according to Coroner Earl R. Abbey. Diamond is the hardest known mineral. First, Schoonmaker examines the color. He can tell a chemically colored wine from a naturally colored one just by a glance. If the color is off, he won't even smell it, much less taste it. Next, he smells the wine and grades the bouquet. He does not swish it around in the glass. The more inside of the glass is coated with the stuff, the greener the bouquet. Now he is ready to taste. "I swish it around in my mouth," he says. "I draw in over it. I breathe out through my nose. That's important because much of the taste is in my nose. Some wines seem good when they first hit you, but they don't have a persistent flavor—the taste leaves you." He doesn't like to be asked which type of wine he likes best. "It's like," he says, "asking a man which of his four children he likes best." Off working hours he drinks and swallows a lot of wine, aba half from California and half from ported. "My wife and I love it," says. "We drink about 50 caffees a year, which is a little below the French national average, still pretty creditable." BLACK MARKET FILLS LEGAL ORDER TEL AVIV (P)—Can buying the black market be justified? This crucial question is frequently discussed in Israel since Mayor I. Rokach of Tel Aviv opened admitted that he had authorized black market purchases of building material for a hospital after exhausting all other possibilities. Some disapproved of Mayor Rokach's action because, then said, government laws must be followed at any cost. One opponent went so far as to declare in newspaper letter that, in order express his indignation, he would leaving the political party to whittle Mr. Rokach belongs. Others heavily approved the action. TEMPORARILY while remodeling of our Center and Lemon Street location TEMPORARILY while remodeling of our Center and Lemon Street location...
